No, I don't see a difference. And it isn't a "mini crusade", it's a point that has to be made. L+M claim this is a free speech site, they have a link right on the front page. Seems it's only a free speech site as long as you don't piss off their friends.

Natasha's image was being passed off as a real member. Takei's was not.

It has less to do with pissing off their friends and them wanting to avoid being sued which would cost them a lot of money to defend regardless of how it turns out.

And if you have issues with how they run their site, you're free to leave. Hell, you haven't paid a dime for the use of this site. Ever.

And it is a childish crusade and you're acting like a little child. You're just too caught up with self-righteousness and indignation over a minor limitation to your freedom of speech. The link to the free speech site is an identification of their philosophy, not a guarantee that you will have it here.
