I don't always hear the President's weekly radio address. When I have caught it, it has been typical Bush bluster and bumble, reeking of insincerity, and filled with half truths or outright lies. I've always wondered why this part of him isn't more obvious to others, and why he wasn't sent back to Crawford a long time ago.

But yesterday when I heard him I became concerned. He didn't stumble in his words. His constant smirk wasn't audible. He seemed focused and convincing and I couldn't be sure if they had a Bush soundalike sitting in for him, or he had just finally mastered a speech by repeating it all week long as he campaigned. I worried he might actaully begin fooling the masses again.

Mostly I worried that the lame Democrats would come on in their response time and talk about whether we should build a wall between us and Mexico.

Tammy Duckworth gave the Democratic response. She is a Major with the Illinois Army National Guard, and she's running for congress there. She lost both her legs two years ago in a Black Hawk down in Iraq. She kicked Bush's ass all the way from Illinois back to Texas. She called him on his bullshit, like the Democrats should have been doing for six years now. She challenged him to try to discredit her patriotism, as this administration tries to do with anyone who challenges their lies. I'd like to see him try.

Anyone else hear it?

Nope. But well done Major Duckworth.

And the Shrubbies will impugn her patriotism. Didn't they do the same thing with Cleland? And that Congressman who lost three limbs in Vietnam? These unethical bastards have no honour. If I was in the same room with them I'd insist they keep both hands in sight at all times and make no sudden moves.
