Open for a half-decent female writer to take the role of a girl. Or woman, it doesn't have to be a schoolgirl, exactly. :) As long as you know what grammar and spelling mean and realize this isn't a one-line-at-a-time chatroom, I'm good. Other roles may be accepted later, by PM request if both I and whoever plays the girl both approve it.

IC:

It was an odd form of existance. He did not go old, nor die, always staying the same age he was at the time of the... transformation. He did not need food or water, did not get tired, and was not bound by gravity, or walls, or the eyes of any people. He was like a spirit, ably to fly anywhere and see anything in the world, but unable to interact with it.

That is, of course, until he was summoned by someone taking posession of the object he was bound to and unlocking its powers. Then, he would be able to take on a human-like physical form and finally see grass bend under his feet, and the doors open under his hand, rather than just let his incorporal being though.

Usually genies were bound to old lamps, unlocked by rubbing. That is how a certain ancient wizard, whose name could not really even be written with today's letters, used to like setting it up. His was not quite like that, being of the later-period genies. He was tied to a beautiful old ring, that could be easily worn and taken with one anywhere, and summoned by a twist of its stone.

Sad him, the ring was, after a little while, lost, found, resold many times, and not one person in two hundred years who possessed it has managed to unwittingly unlock its powers. Until now.

For the first time in centuries, he felt the pull that grew stronger by the moment. He knew he had to follow it.

Materializing, he found himself in the middle of a jewelry store. Snap - went his fingers and time froze all around, leaving only him and a girl able to move. He looked at his newest 'savior' with interest. Usually it was old, powerhungry men, whose bidding he had to do in the past. This time it was a female, and quite a beatiful one at that. Not that it mattered for her now. Had she even been the ugliest one in the world, a single wish could turn her into a supermodel-like beauty.

'Speaking of which,' he thought, 'I need to introduce myself and let her know what she did.'

He walked - actually walked, complete with the echo of footsteps! - to the puzzled and confused girl, the ring on her finger with a store price tag still on it. He smiled.

"Good day, beautiful. So, you have unlocked the powers of this ring and let me out?"

It must have sounded rather silly, especially since he preffered to always keep his physical appearance in tune with the timeperiod and its fashions. There he was, a good-looking, nicely built man with somewhat pale skin and green eyes, wearing a suit, which made him look just like hundreds of others that visited this downtown store, telling her about some mystical powers of the ring. Had it not been for frozen surroundings, she probably would have taken him for a psycho.

"I have frozen the time for a while, so we can get aquainted in private. Don't worry, it will be back to normal shortly." He smiled again, trying to look friendly.

"Have you read stories about genies? I know you have. It is hard to find someone who did not nowadays. I am one. You have let me out, and for as long as that ring is safely on your slender little finger, I will do my best to fulfil what you wish for. All you need to do to call me is to twist the stone like you just did."

"What is your name, my dear?" He asked the mesmerized girl. She answered and he smiled again.

"It's a pleasure." He kissed her hand delicately. "I will disappear now and time will move on again. When you want to talk again, just twist the stone."

There was no "poof" or other cheap effects. He merely vanished and the world kept on going like nothing happened. All of it except for the stunned girl.

Cassandra Reynolds
Light brown hair with golden highlights, down to mid-back, thick
Strikingly beautiful face, green eyes
About 5' 6", small waist, full breasts, trim
Early twenties
Fair skin, light freckles

Cassie flipped her golden-brown hair over her shoulder. It was a beautiful Saturday morning and she was taking some time out from her hectic schedule to relax and do some window-shopping. Shopping for jewelry and trinkets helped her relax and take her mind off of work and school. It was her last year at the local community college and she found she needed to "unwind" a lot more this year than she used to.

It had rained earlier that morning, but now the sky was clear and birds were singing. The pretty shop fronts glistened in the spring sunshine and the air was fresh. Cassie decided to chuck her cup of mocha latte as she saw that the owner of the antique jewelry shop she had been looking at earlier was now posting it's "OPEN" sign. She wanted to get in there before it got crowded.

"Good morning!" she said, on her way in. The elderly gentleman smiled at her. "Good morning," he replied. "Anything I can help you with today?"

"Nope, just browsing, thanks!" Cassie replied. She began to peruse the glass display cases that were closest to the register -- that's usually where the best jewelry was kept, under the owner's watchful eye.

After a few minutes, she heard the bell on the door jingle as a few more people drifted into the shop. She glanced back to the case when she saw it! It was the most amazing ring, with a very distinctive opal setting. The gold band had intricate carvings on it, strange and convoluted. It was battered and well worn, but shiny. The opal reflected the most brilliant swirl of colors -- it almost glowed.

"Excuse me sir, may I see this?" She asked the owner. The elderly man brought the ring out to her. She checked the price tag. Not bad for this kind of ring at all! She slipped the ring on her little finger... perfect fit! Cassie tipped the ring up to the light and took a closer look at the setting. Strange... That setting was odd. She couldn't quite make out the where it was soldered to the ring. In fact, if she didn't know better, it almost appeared that the setting was screwed into the ring somehow, making it appear as though the opal were floating above the band.

Her curiosity piqued, Cassie took hold of the setting with her thumb and forefinger and gave it a good twist. She wanted to make sure the setting was sound and firm.

And then it happened! All noise, all motion stopped instantly. And there he was, this amazing man walking towards her.

Her heart stopped. Something was terribly terribly wrong, but somehow her brain couldn't function well enough to comprehend anything just yet.

"Good day, beautiful. So, you have unlocked the powers of this ring and let me out?"

It took everything in her to not just stammer, "Duhhhhhh..." at that moment. Her jaw dropped, her eyes wide, she began to pale. What... what was happening??

"I have frozen the time for a while, so we can get acquainted in private.

"What is your name, my dear?"

"C... C... Cassandra!" she blurted out. Her heart pounded so loudly in her chest she could barely hear her own voice.

"It's a pleasure." He kissed her hand delicately. "I will disappear now and time will move on again. When you want to talk again, just twist the stone."

And then he was gone and everything was moving again.

Cassie stood frozen in the middle of the store, her hands shaking, mouth dry, hyperventilating. She turned to the owner, who was now staring at her with a look of concern. "Are you okay?" he asked.

"Um... I..." she answered. In that moment, something in her took over and she decided not to say a word.

"I'll take this one," she said. She held the ring out to the man, her fingers shaking so badly she thought she would drop the strange thing.

Fast forward to later that evening:
Alone in her apartment, Cassie paces. She's been there all day, and now it was well past sunset. She hadn't eaten. She hadn't slept. She had paced and sat and paced and sat.

"It couldn't be real. It couldn't," she thought to herself for the hundredth time that day.

So if it wasn't real, why was she so afraid to put the ring on again and try it?

Cassie sat down on her bed, and fingers shaking, reached for the ring. She slipped it on her little finger, took a deep breath and twisted the stone again.

Following his disappearance before, the non-corporeal form of the Genie did not go about on his boring wanderings once again. No, now he had a more interesting and relevant object to watch. Or, rather, person, and a beautiful one at that. Though he was not in the flesh, even his mind soaked in her beauty and couldn't help being attracted to her. Perhaps one of the reasons was that she was the only girl he could reveal himself to in the past four hundred years. Whatever the reason, it felt incredibly good to have her attention on him, to have her react to what he did - whatever that reaction was. It might be something others take for granted, but to a being that spent centuries invisible and unable to influence even the tiniest bit of the physical world in any way, it was a pleasure in itself.

As that same force began pulling him, he hastily followed it to materialize in the world of humans. He did it behind her this time, not realizing it may scare her slightly to suddenly feel someone's presence there. He only thought that she was sitting on the soft bed, and he wanted to appear sitting on it as well.

"Hello again." He said softly, making her jump slightly and turn her head.

He no longer wore the suit and shoes, having traded that outfit for a softer, homier one that consisted of light track pants and a T-shirt that hugged his torso, outlining the curves of his modest, but toned muscles.

"Sorry to have scared you like this." He offered her an appologetic smile. "I thought you would be expecting me to appear."

He stayed silent for a while, unwilling to bluntly ask what she wanted. She would bring it up herself, he trusted, and there was no need to rush her. He had all the time in the world.

Cassandra

OOC: Sorry took me so long! Been very busy! I’m baaaack.

IC:
"Hello again." He said softly

Cassie jumped and turned… and sure enough, there he was again! She rose up slightly off of the bed, her eyes wide, her breathing rapid.

He sat on her bed, looking as though it were the most normal thing in the world for him to be there. There in her BED! Wearing… just normal clothes. He was good looking and his smile did seem genuinely warm and friendly. He didn’t seem to be interested in hurting her.

Was she going crazy or was this real?

"Sorry to have scared you like this." He offered her an apologetic smile. "I thought you would be expecting me to appear."

Her mouth slightly agape, Cassie summoned up all of the courage within her. She lifted her hand slowly, stretching as far as possible to reach out and touch him.

Gently, tentatively, she touched her fingers to his shoulder to see if he was really there.

OOC: Don't worry about the delay. :) Just to let you know, if you missed my topic, it seems I'll have less time to spend on Lit for the next short while. So, I appologize if my posts are going to be very short and rare for the next little while...

IC:

He watched with interest as the girl overcame her fear - not of him, he realized, but of her own sences. To put it bluntly, she must have worried if she was going insane.

A soft, small chuckle fell off his lips as he watched her finger cautiously approach his shoulder and finally gently poke into the nicely rounded muscle. He lifted his eyes off that finger to her face, smiling wider. He reached out with his own hand slowly and poked her gently in the shoulder as well, laughing lightly.

"No, darling, you are not dreaming." He smiled. "I'm flesh and blood when you bring me into material world, almost like any other human."

Cassie prodded his shoulder, and... felt muscle! He was really there! Sitting there on her bed, smiling at her, as though this were the most perfectly normal thing in the world. Perfectly normal for this handsome stranger to appear suddenly as though from nothing.

"No, darling, you are not dreaming." He smiled. "I'm flesh and blood when you bring me into material world, almost like any other human."

Her eyes widened as he touched her in return.

"When I bring you into material world?" Cassie echoed. She was confused now. "Flesh and blood?"

She knew she must sound idiotic. She pulled herself up straighter, and this time reached out to touch his face. It too, was real and his skin smooth beneath her fingertips.

"Who are you?" she asked as she withdrew her hand for the second time.

And then she popped -- one question after another began to bubble forth and she couldn't stop herself; "How did you get here? WHY are you here?? Why did everything stop in the store when I saw you earlier? Do you control time?? Are you some sort of ghost or, or alien or or.. some sort of demon? How long are you here for? Will you disappear again?"

Her brain was burning with a million unanswered questions and she began shaking again as the realization that this charming man was really physically here in her room sank in for good.

He chuckled, then caught her hand as it was leaving from touching his face and kissed it lightly.

"Relax, my princess." He smiled warmly, as the barrage of questions flooded at him. "You must pay better attention to me. I know you are a little bit overwhelmed by details, but... Ah, it was so much simpler in the ancient times when people still believed in magic." He sighed but immediately grinned playfully.

"Let us go over this again. I am a genie. The non-physical plane I am usually in should not concern you; it's a rather boring place, really." He paused, with a small charming smile on his lips. "I am attached to the ring you have on your finger. You twist it, I appear somewhere around in flesh, just like a human. You make a wish, I promise to do my best to make it true. It is a rather simple, what do you call it now? 'User interface.' No?" He smiled again.

"I think it would be easier to grasp if you tried it out. Go ahead, darling, make a wish."

"A GENIE?" She demanded. "I just can't believe this!"

Cassie stood up suddenly, pulling away from the charming smile.

She looked at him incredulously and began to pace a little back and forth in front of the bed. Her gaze never left his face, as her brain tried to assimilate it all. A genie. A cute, handsome, charming genie. Right here in her bed. Yes, she was definitely going nuts.

"If you are a genie, really a genie, and I get to make wishes, is this one of those things, you know, where I get three wishes and then you disappear on me? I've seen all those movies you know! I make a wish and then if I don't say it just right something horrible will happen to me, right?"

The she stopped and looked at him.

"Okay then, Mr. Genie Person, whoever you are! I wish... I wish..." Cassie paused as her brain tried to work something out. "I wish for a bowl of chocolate pudding!"

Cassie stood there, hands on her hips, her face a mix of determination, doubt and just a little worry. She knew her wish sounded ridiculous, but she just needed some sort of proof, something simple, to tell herself she wasn't going insane.

He kept the smile up effortlessly, though it changed a little from polite sympathy towards fun. He knew he should be sympathetic. She was, after all, taking it pretty well. Most people would have scoffed at the notion and refused to believe it outright. Most would probably even refuse to admit the possibility. But it was entertaining to watch her wrestle with herself mentally, and he just couldn't refuse himself the pleasure of a little smile.

"Don't worry, the only limit to your number of wishes is I. If you don't upset me too much, you can wish forever. But don't worry too much about it unless your plans include massacering thousands of people." He sent her a soft smile. "I am a pretty easy-going guy. So wish away."

"Pudding?" He chuckled. "The one the proof is in?" He grinned. "Quite literally it will be in this case, don't you think?"

For a moment he pondered it. The temptation was great to just go and check the girl's fridge, and if it's not there go get one from the store. It would, technically, be fulfilling her wish. But he decided to go easy on the girl for whom he began feeling genuine sympathy and liking.

"Done."

He snapped his fingers and a large bowl full of chocolaty stuff appeared right on the bed out of nowhere, it seemed. For lack of a poof or any other effect, he had to actually point his finger to lead her attention to it. Across the top was written in white whipped cream: "4 Cass".

"You must have some spoons around?" He smiled victoriously.

OOC: HA! And you probably thought I was dead! I'm baaaack! Sorry for the VERY long delay, hopefully I'm not fired yet. Was busy moving someone out of my house (to put it very nicely). Hopefully we may continue now.

IC:
She stared at the pudding for a very long time. And then looked harder at the stunning stranger in her bed.

Cassie was there now - it was all clicking. It had taken her a while. Maybe part of her still doubted -- but now she finally had to give in. This must be real. And well, if it wasn't, it sure was a nice dream and she wasn't going to ruin it by continuing to question it.

"What is your name?" Cassie asked suddenly. "You must have a name surely? Am I just to call you Genie, or... ?"

Quite unconsciously, her hand rose again to touch his shoulder.

He watched the girl for some time. She was, it seemed begining to follow how things were. It didn't take her too long, he had to admit. One of the medieval kings who had found him tried to throw him into the dungeon. Repeatedly. And then wondered how in God's name he managed to appear by the ring again. Thick inbred fool.

He smiled at her touch, taking her hand into his and caressing it softly.

"I have no name, beautiful. I have no name for I am not a person. Only a spirit bonded to serve this lamp and enchanted with powers. I can only become man again by wish of one who holds the ring. But no one would ever wish for it, because it would destroy the ring and remove my magic powers."

He smiled again.

"You may call me anything you like, beautiful."

"Uh huh..." Cassie mumbled.

She wasn't sure why, but she trusted this person... spirit... As he caressed her hand in his she didn't pull back.

Maybe it was the overload of information, maybe her brain just couldn't take anymore. She just gave in and let him hold her that way, where under any other circumstances, she might have slapped the man who would be so bold with her.

"I'm not sure what to call you... How about Nick? Or, um... Gene??" She knew she sounded lame, but she couldn't think of anything else to say at the moment.

"So I can wish for.. for anything?" Cassie's attention turned to the fragile antique jewelery box on her bed-side table. She gingerly picked it up and handed it to the genie.

"Could you.. could you fix this for me?"

Cassie's query was fraught with a longing hard to describe. She knew she was being foolish. She should be asking for money, or a better job, or to feed the poor. But all she could think of at that moment was the box given to her by her great-great grandmother. So many times had she wished that it were repairable. She had never found anyone trustworthy enough to handle the delicate item. Maybe now... maybe he could help her.

He chuckled once again as she babbled silly things about a name for him. He just nodded his head, holding a smile on his lips.

"Whatever makes you comfortable, beautiful. Gene sounds better to me. I like it when things are logically connected. This is, after all, part of magic. But, you were saying..."

Gene nodded slowly, looking into her eyes.

"Certainly. You may wish for anything you like. If it is within my power, of course..." He grimaced slightly, as if a little ashamed to mention that his powers, too, had a limit somewhere. "But let me warn you, my dear. With my power doing your bidding, the effect your wishes and thinking can have on the world increases compared to what you could ever hope to do as a simple human. Yet, your mind is no more complicated or wise now than it was yesterday. It can, in a sense, turn out to be the equivalent of giving a child control of a powersaw. So, you must think and consider very carefully before you wish for something serious."

He nodded again, approvingly as she held out the little jewelry box.

"A very good choice, Cassie. Little damage can come from fixing your box. Certainly, I can do it."

He took the gentle thing into his hands and fumbled with it for a while. No magical poof, or anything of the kind. Simply, his fingers seemed unnaturally steady, agile and capable of more than even the finest jeweler's tools and skills. In two minutes, he returned the box to her, with a smile, fully functional.

"Here you go, my charming. Good as new."

Cassandra

Cassie held the precious box in her trembling hands. It was unbelievable! It looked as good as the day she received it.

“Thank you… I… I…” Cassie stammered, and then she began to cry.

Tears streamed from her eyes as she held the precious box to her chest, and she bowed her head and let them come.

“It was the last thing she ever gave me. My great-great grandmother died when I was four years old, but I was deeply attached to her. My mother sold most of the trinkets and presents Grandmam gave me, but I managed to hold onto this.” Cassie sniffled, and wiped at her eyes.

“Thank you! Thank you… Gene!” she said, looking directly at him now.

And before she could stop herself, she flung her arms around his neck and hugged him tightly, sobbing into his shoulder. All of the stress from the last few days, the memories of her bitter past, and all of the strangeness that was happening to her now, it was all too much to handle. She let her stress go with her tears, and leaned against his strong body for support.

Gene was a little surprised at such a pronounced reaction. The little jewelry box must have been very valuable indeed for Cassie. He hadn't seen such emotion even when he had given ancient rulers artifacts that would make them near-invincible.

He hugged her gently and caressed her shoulders.

"Cry, darling. It's alright." He whispered softly, holding her. "Let it go off your shoulders, you will feel better. It's alright, my beautiful... it's alright."

He was not doing it consciously, calculated. Rather, it was all instinctive. For a moment he wondered how he knows it. In the last thousand years he had only been material for very brief periods, so it must have been from his time as a mortal in the ancient world. He smiled at the thought that his caresses seemed as pleasant to her as they were to women millenia ago. Things like this stayed true. For a long time, if not forever.

Now that he was material, Gene felt everything that came with it. The stimulations, the needs, the desires. This girl, who was clinging to him, distressed, was truly beautiful and he found his flesh and his mind desiring her.

Gene could chase it away; could will and force his mind to settle and his body to deflate the hard bulge that stretched his pants to the limit. He didn't. He never would, because any corporal feeling was as much a treasure to him as the jewel box was to her. He was mostly deprived of anything bodily for a thousand years. And a thousand years was a long, long time...

"Cry, darling. It's alright." He whispered softly, holding her. "Let it go off your shoulders, you will feel better. It's alright, my beautiful... it's alright."
At his words Cassie melted. She relaxed completely into his embrace and let herself go, crying away the stress of the past few hours and days.

“It’s not… it’s not..” She sobbed. She was crying so hard she could barely get the words out.

“It’s not just the box, even though that is so important to me.” She looked teary-eyed up at his handsome face. “It’s everything!”

And back into his strong arms again to continue crying she went.

She knew, deep down inside it was the loneliness as well. These past few years, living independently, making her way in the world. Juggling a job and school full time left little room for the social life other college students bragged about.

She couldn’t say it out loud but it had been three years since she had been out on a date for that matter! She lacked even the companionship of a close girlfriend or two.

His arms around her, his comforting words… began to stir up a desire in her she hadn’t felt in many years. Something she thought she could do without, something she thought she didn’t really need.

Cassie let go and let the feelings overcome her, and began to hold him back. And before she really thought about who he was or WHAT he was, she found her mouth creeping closer to his neck.

He could grant her every desire…

She pulled up and looked deep into his eyes.

“I wish…” she said softly. “I wish… ”

She was mumbling, speaking through tears, but he could make out her words, if not fully comprehend the meaning. Still, somehow, he shared in her feelings, that got transfered not through words or gestures alone, but through the entire complexity of her being. He saw the tears fall, the body shake, he felt her soul quiver and ache as it was overwhelmed by emotions and the weight it has been carrying for so long.

Gene caressed her back and her shoulders, comforting Cassie.

"It is behind you..." He whispered, running his hands over her soft hair. "It will all be easier now. I am with you. I am for you." He paused for a brief second, caressing her hair and taking in the smell of it. Good God, he never felt so good before! "I promise I will do anything I can to make you happy." He paused again, then smiled as his eyes caught hers. "Beautiful."

“I wish…” she said softly. “I wish… ”

He waited in anticipation, wishing nothing more himself than to keep her in the embrace for a little longer, to share the physical bond with her, and the emotional one as well. But he met her eyes and smiled softly. Then, he reached out and moved a strand of her hair back from her face.

"Anything..." He said. "Anything you want."
