My daughter had one done, and it was fascinating. She then searched back through birth, marriage and death certificates, as well as census records, and got into the origins of surnames of immigrants. She had, as expected, the Italian and middle Eastern genes from her father's side. She had a smidge of Irish from my father. The bit we're both having a real laugh at is what remains, what she inherited from me... English, English, English, northern Europe, English. Nazis would envy my unpolluted whiteness!
It's funny because, my entire life, my mother has claimed some more exotic ancestry. She claimed her grandmother was secretly Jewish, and that we had a little African snuck in somewhere and covered up as a family secret, along with a big slice of Irish. She even tried to argue that the middle Eastern genes in my daughter's results were from the Jewish/African part of her heritage. My mother has been pulling a Rachel Dolezal
Ever had one? Any interesting results? Any concerns about what might be unearthed?
