Generational Variations of the present day include Boomers, Millennials, Gen X-er's and who knows what's coming down the swirling temporal maelstrom of our instantly interconnected lifestyles?

As a child of the Atomic Age I have seen vast changes in the world, but I have also overlooked many of the later changes that happen out of my sphere of interests.

But the Rolling Stone's "Tales From the Millennials' Sexual Revolution" opened my eyes

How do the 'kids' feel about sex and sexing after 50 years of the Pill?

It makes me feel old.

It makes us all feel old! Time is fleeting, dreams are accomplished, families are raise and in the end, death comes to us all! I to hid under my desk for Atomic bomb air raid drills; it was a time of innocence!

I could have really appreciated a 95% deal a few times in my life. I was just born too early for it. sigh :(

I was born to late, I would have like to have been born in the early 1930's; love that time frame. But I have been lucky, made it through Vietnam, whereas I lost friends. Had a family, a daughter and grand kids, I have been lucky!

That's an interesting question - the pill of course did wonders for the sexual revolution. Then AIDS came along with its death sentence and for ~30-40 years really squashed sexual freedom. Things are getting looser again, not necessarily for good reasons. But theres's a pretty large difference, I find, between those of us who became sexually mature and active before AIDS vs. those who did so in the afterwards. AIDS gave protection, and sexual politics, a whole different meaning.

And now that I've read the RS article, wow do I feel old! So much to learn before my kid becomes sexually active!

Is that the "Duck & Cover" [protection] thing ?

The UK government did not see fit to do something like that, but when we saw it, many simply laughed (on the grounds that it would make little or no difference).

A typical UK joke of that "Atomic Era" was:
Action to be taken in the event of the 4-minute warning being given.
Gather up your newspaper,
Switch everything off
go into the lavatory
Put the newspaper on the top of your head
squat down with your head between you knees
And kiss your arse GoodBye.

I should, perhaps, mention that we got an estimated four minutes between "Oh Shit" and 'good night'.

PS.
I think I've lived at the best of times. I've seen the thermionic valve go from jam-jar to thumb size, the development of the transistor and semi-conductors generally, Space travel and science like nothing else.

And there were those entertaining Protect and Survive leaflets and public information films. Whenever I feel a little down, a little unsure about the way the world is going, I Youtube those old films and remember that no matter how dumb things look now, back then we had idiots who actually believed that people in the UK (the no.1 European target for the Soviets) could survive an exchange.

I live in Poland now (the no.1 non-Soviet European target for NATO) and the general sense is similar.
