I need some help from the more senior members.

Please.

I'm working on my winter story, and I'm a little fuzzy on the more grating personalities on GB, as I really don't lurk there often... Especially since many of those log-ins do not actually have stories online.

For instance... It looks like BusyBody became hazbeen... So I could satirize this persona in my story. Which of the others would you guys suggest that I use? It would help if you could give me any background on their various name and persona changes.

At this point, I think I'm shy one or two characters, although I could cut some of the ones I have if I get better suggestions.

Thanks in advance for any help or abuse.

Not a senior member.

You're just reinforcing my impression that the Lit forums are a very unfriendly place. They may be grating, but you aren't helping.

Don't you have a life outside the Literotica forums that you could use as the basis for your story?

Writing a satire.

I think it will be funny. I got generally good reviews on my Halloween entry. Check it out and see what you think.

I'm not sure any good could come out of spilling the GB over into the AH. There have been invasions before when this was done, and it wasn't pretty.

I will turn my message box on...

Since this is a concern, feel free to send it, rather than post it.

All on the General Board are gentlemen and scholars, especially the females.

Good luck to you. This should end well! :D,, or  (one of the above)

Thus far, I've received some really helpful material from a couple of folks... As well as a couple of hair-curling warnings.

Thanks...

And I'm still collecting.

My first thread ever in the GB was introducing myself as a incest writing Satanist. Its like the first day of school, give their shit back to them and they're fine.

Lol...

And back in the 80s, our flame wars were via dial-up modems on bulletin boards... While we played LORD and Bordello.

For what it's worth, I'm not sure I really see the point in writing such a story. Writing a satire about people you don't know or a 'culture' you are not particularly familiar with is going to be unnecessarily difficult. Moreover, it's unlikely that many people from the GB will ever read your story, which means your audience is unlikely to 'get it'—though the story may well work without understanding it on that level. Inasmuch as any GBer is aware of it, they will probably think it just weird. Especially coming from an outsider. Though that would also depend, up to a point, on who you chose to write the story about. Mostly, however, they will not care about you or your story at all.

If you ask the GB for help, how you will be received will depend on several things. If you present yourself as doing research for a story—and are believed—you will be either mostly ignored or subjected to snarky comments. What happens after that is up to you. If you are defensive about it, it will get much worse; if you play along and have fun with it—without trying to 'win'—you'll probably be fine. Nevertheless, it's unlikely anyone will be of much help, since they will most likely consider you a weirdo.

If you do not do so—or are not believed—you will be presumed to be an alt trying to stir things up. In that, it's actually not so different from the AH. And, I must add, it will be extraordinarily difficult—if not nigh impossible—to convince anyone otherwise. Though, in a roundabout and hard to follow way, it would tell you some of the things you wanted to know.

There are posters on the GB who have written short satirical things about other personalities on the board, but not usually as stories posted on the main site (or at least that I can think of). For the most part the GB is separate from the main site—many people don't even read Lit stories (anymore). By contrast, the AH is intimately concerned with stories on the site, being composed of its authors, and in that respect what appeals to the vanity of the AH won't appeal to the vanity of the GB. And those who have written such things are generally well-known members of the GB community writing for other members—and on the GB itself. An outsider writing for outsiders must expect a different reaction.

I wouldn't worry too much about any 'warnings' anyone gives you. The worst that would happen to you in that situation is no worse than what happens to anyone posting any story—and probably not as bad as what happens to people who post in certain categories: someone may be mean to you on the internet.

A lot of my writes are inspired by Internets trolls and attention whooors; I write plenty of poems about folks in the GB.

Nike says JUST DO IT.

:)

Only 6% of the people that come to Lit come to any of the boards. The GB is not the most popular Board - that dubious honour seems to be shared by the pics, personals, and fetishist people.

So the OP is aiming at a very tiny group, most of whom lack any discernable personality anyway, plus a number who themselves are fictions.

Most of them are fictional. Indeed, I'm sure that several here, post there via sockpuppet.

Those are the stories of the Dark City... (Sorry, couldn't resist!)

The General Board is now The Playground and fulla assheads and assclowns.

I think the GB, despite its pretentious attitude of being 'the' board here, reeks of desperation. They're the people who try way to hard to be cool and pretend they don't care if you don't like them.

But in reality they are striving to 'be somebody' and every post means something.

The fact all the main players over there not only all have insane amounts of posts-many average 20k per year-but have alts that have thousands of posts tells you that damn board is their life and every time they post something they're checking every few seconds to see what some one thought of their witty remarks.

The GB is like the sad side of Facebook, the people who suffer from the fear of not being connected or acknowledged by the rest of the faceless herd as being cool.

There's a few posters there that I can definitely see walking around during their jobs or the course of their day literally thinking "Oh, yeah, well I'm so-and so on the general board dammit!"

Too bad the biggest example of that was banned recently, because the OP could have had a field day with them.

I should add not everyone there is a full of themselves jerk, there's a few very funny people over there you can tell don't take anything seriously, but they seem to be the minority.

Still banging away on this.

Was stuck for a militant lesbian for a time today, but one of you lovely people came to my rescue. Thank you, thank you!
