Gender Identification Software--Science or Crock of Shit?

I listened with great interest to an NPR interview with an Israeli computer expert named Moses Koppel, who's developed a program which supposedly can go through a piece of writing and determine whether a male of female wrote it.

Part of me views this with skepticism, as with polygraphs and graphological analysis, and part of me would like to see what it would make of the works of John Hill, or--I forget the author's name--whoever it was wrote that series The Magic In Your Touch.

Here's a link--a paper written by the guy (Koppel) himselfhttp://www.cs.biu.ac.il/~koppel/male-female-llc-final.pdf

I want to know whether his machine would work on Lit submissions. Or more interestingly on Durtgurl's stories.

If iyt did work, Lit could use it on all submissions and then mark up the sex of authors correctly!

Why would it matter anyway?

Is there a reason for distinguishing the sex of a writer? I mean other than in crime prevention/solving.

Dear Earl,
It would be interesting to see how any kind of analytical software would react to DG's stories. I thing they're beyond anaylsis.

Horrors!

Imagine a DurgGurl concordance; or not.

Dear Perdita,
Would you care to collaborate on an annotated edition of DG's works? Didn't think so.

Ps. How about being a playwright and adapting the "Patty and the Teacher" trilogy for a little theatre group?

Got to agree, what the hell's the point of this machine anyway, many famous authors choose to write in a name of the opposite gender, why should some dick head with a machine and nothing more constructive to do be needed to ruin it all for them?

DG would be horrified I feel, we all know she likes folks to think she's a bloke sometimes.

Maths, I'm actually tempted. I mean if I can minimize Sh're, why not? Only thing is, I'd have to read all DG's work. Nah, forget it.

Re. the little theatre group, you mean something like the early SF Mime Troupe? 'Traveling players' is appealing - real street theatre.

Well, thanks for considering me; I still have a dozen Sh're haiku to write, and then I thought I'd start haikuicizng the great Russian novelists and maybe Homer and Dante.

p.s. forgot to say Hi Pops; glad to be under you again.
