Gay woman targets the girl next door

I have an embryonic story idea which needs adding much flesh - and probably some more bones!

I have in mind a gay woman who marries a man for the sake of security and reputation - she doesn't like the idea of being thought a lesbian and "different". She adheres to the classic family concept and its comforts, which is her own family background. She's probably mid-thirties or older.

Along comes a new family to settle next door and she is immediately smitten by the teenage daughter. She thinks, although not sure about it, that the girl is gay. The girl's family try to foist frilly clothes and other "girly" things on her but she seems to rebel, wanting to wear her hair brutally short. The woman, in the few snatches of conversation she's managed to strike up with the girl, establishes that boyfriends aren't remotely on her agenda.

The girl turns 18 - and I'm grasping around for ideas to get this further along the track!

The easiest way: the woman has a swimming pool and invites her neighbors to use whenever... the girl takes her up on that offer then it's could you please rub sunscreen on my back followed by let's both catch some rays topless ...

My wife was telling me about the time, before I knew her when she was in her late teens, an older female friend in the neighborhood was showing her around her house. She took her downstairs and showed her the bedroom that had multiple eyebolts placed in several "handy" locations.

How about at a dinner with the neighbors, the young woman's mother makes a comment about her daughters 'less feminine' dress and appearance when our FMM comes to her defence.
"Now Dotty, we have to let our children become who they want to be. Who they are. Isn't that what we were all about at that age? Finding freedom to express ourselves?"

Seeing a kindred spirit, the young rebel seeks out her neighbor and they strike up a friendship based on that. She needs an open minded ear to hear her and perhaps get a little advice on handling her mother. They get closer and closer until that first kiss that redefines existence for both of them.

This is the turning point. You can start with a birthday party and see what comes out of it. Make it loud and troublesome to develop some chemistry, or they could just skip the pleasantries and do it right there.

If the neighborly friendship between the woman and the girl lend itself to ever getting together for a cup of coffee - or perhaps running into each other at the coffee shop - the woman might complain about her husband doing some stupid male thing that all males do. "Men just don't understand us - what we really want - what we really ... need - do they?"

It isn't some overwhelming "do you like girls? wanna fuck?" thing, or even a little touch that's a bit too forward that puts her on guard every time they meet after that. Just a little opening that might lend itself to the conclusion that a woman has options that don't include having to put up with typical male behavior. (Or ... any male behavior.)

Yes, I like this. A kind of "sisterhood" common cause against the world. Maybe the woman comes out with a whole series of grievances, real or supposed, against her husband and other men.

I think, above all, her objective is to tease out the gay streak in the girl... possibly she detects a "butch" dominance in her which appeals to a corresponding submissive side in herself. She actually wants the girl to become big-time assertive towards her..? Is there any mileage in that?

I love lesbian seduction stories. I suppose you could make it about two gay women who are trying to figure out if each other are into it or not. But I find it much hotter if one of them is reluctant, doesn't think of herself as a lesbian at all, until she is shown how aroused she can get under the proper circumstances. This sounds like the start of a good one.

I had another thought. Remember the old "The Highlander" TV series? There are certain people called Immortals. They don't become an immortal until after the first time they are killed. They don't even know that the have it in them to become an immortal. But other immortals can sense them. Sometimes they will take them under their wing and ease their transition. In a story, it could work the same way for lesbians (or, I suppose, any sexual orientation or kink) who sense the latent desire in others who don't know it yet about themselves.

To mould the idea slightly - maybe the woman and her husband are "beards" for each other. Meaning they're both gay but married each other for that security you mention. The change would be that she doesn't dislike being gay, but still wants to fit in as much as possible. So she and her husband get the nice house, the dog, etc that sell the lifestyle. I also think early-to-mid-thirties is the perfect age for her.

The only other change I'd make is for the girl to already be 18 when she and her parents move in - just to make sure you're adhering to LitE's rules.

I think a great way of the two women bonding is for the older one to see a lot of herself in the younger, and to guide her in a way that she wishes she was when she was 18. I also like the idea of the girl cutting her hair really short (maybe into a scruffy pixie cut?), and maybe that could be what changes the woman from being just smitten to being actively interested in this girl.

I think this fits in perfectly too. Maybe the younger woman manages to convince her mother after that dinner (maybe even making it seem like it's the mother's idea) that she should hang out with the older woman who can guide her and understand her in a way the mother isn't able to. If you incorporate the "gay husband" part of it, maybe he can also help out with convincing the mother, having seen how smitten with the young rebel his wife is.

I'm sure there's others like this, but this really reminds me of this story by Lovecraft68.

Ahh, bless the quickening! I knew at once she was gay, even if perhaps she was yet to understand it herself. The sparks between us were literal. "Hey, sweetie," I said. "Would you like to see my Toledo Salamanca?"

I'm not sure if there could be such a thing as "instinctive perception" at work here... but for sure I won't be using any supernatural crap. I want (reasonably intelligent) readers to believe it could actually be happening in RL!

Speaking from personal experience as a transgender woman, and bisexual, gaydars are a thing.

Also, I hope you don't mind, I took your idea for the Day 83 of my writing challenge (a challenge of writing about the same thing for a year) since this idea is right up my alley too. Did a switch up of the characters, and I can't help but insist that there is something if you develop a birthday party. In the case I worked it out, it was a Sunday barbecue. I didn't include a pool, but a pool might be involved. You can get to know the world of both heroines, and even get the non-verbal communication around. I twisted it here that the neighbor girl actually planned to conquer the married woman.

Not to toot my own horn though. Your prompt is interesting, and the way everyone weighed in is also really cool.

I doubt it. That would be akin to acknowledging the existence of telepathy. However, there are doubtless many small signs relating to things half-said and body language which are genuine and real - as a totality they would amount to the same thing.

In your stipulated case, I would have your wife MC deciding to go for broke and setting up some kind of alone-together situation where she could play the mild and submissive female - possibly dressed in the frills and lace that the girl herself shuns - and tempting the latter to take the lead and almost use a degree of force.

Might be an idea to have this girl as a lanky and well-set teenager, able to out-muscle the wife. Or maybe I've misread your post about "big-time assertiveness"..?

Correct. The girl's physique would have been feeding in to the woman's thinking and submissive nature. They are a marriage made in heaven. It only remains for the woman to get her scheming right and set up the opportunity and the right prompt to have the girl "exit the closet".

oldie but realistic

Great idea, OP. I like the thought in post #11 of the girl next door being a latent "dominant" and the woman wanting to bring that out in her. It gives a whole extra mental/personality dimension to things and makes the story far more interesting than the usual tired seduction stuff complete with scent and vibrators (see above!).

Would be really interested to see this via the usual channel.

Thanks. I'm still grappling with time issues and whether to do this or several other "back burner" pieces.

Agreed. The psychological side to matters is something conspicuous by its absence from the vast majority of puerile, tongue-hanging-out "erotic" writing. I find writers who can introduce such things to be easily the most readable. Their characters are so much more believable than the usual colourless, one-dimensional bimbos and hunks.
