I have been wrestling with the case of the baker that does not want to bake a cake for a gay couple. After all, what the fuck gives anyone the right to say who I (or they) have to bake a cake for? OK - so I guess I am kind of on their side. But it just bothered me somehow. On the surface that seems really reasonable - but is it?

If you (generic you) engage in public business, you must follow all applicable laws, including those against discrimination. If your moral sense insists you illegally discriminate, you should choose another business.

But doesn't your freedom of religion let you choose who to do business with? Nope. Religion doesn't give a pass on legality. Suppose your faith insists you kill known Scientologists. Can you get away with offing Tom Cruise? Alas, no.

And if you run a bakery open to the public, you don't get to turn away blacks, Jews, Asians, Scientologists, queers, or dwarves, not because of who they are. Folks wearing political buttons don't qualify; no protection there.

But a crafty bigoted businessperson wouldn't exclude the despised -- they'd quietly boost their prices. Call it a hidden Scientologist surcharge, like the Gringo tax in Honduran marketplaces. It's like stalwart Xians welcoming donations from sleazy dictators -- taking Satan's coin to use against him.

So a guy who chose making dainties in a kitchen as a career gets upset about baking for gays? Seems unlikely…

Take away churches tax breaks, and then they can discriminate against gay wedding cakes... until then, they should shut the fuck up about it.

Wait till its a wedding cake for (fill in the blank) and then see how the sjw culture warriors attack !

I think it's poor business practice. If their money is green, I'd bake the cake for them. It's no skin off my nose. It doesn't make me gay(not that there's anything wrong with that).

As I said:

Those whose faith drives away business will be devoured by crafty cynics.
