Gay pride? or just pride in Kansas

Every day I read something that makes me think, well that's just about as low as it go.

But every day some other dickhead proves to me just how wrong I can be.

I despair.

I truly, truly despair.

Tis time the earth imploded or outploded or whatever. The human race no longer deserves to exist.

I doubt it will be very much longer till we manage to do it ourselves somehow.

Uhm, Dran? Can you help me out with this?

What, exactly, is your beef with this story? Is it propaganda? Unfair to someone? Or some group?

I really can't see the reason for your anger.

Apparently there was an uproar over a rainbow flag being flown at this bed & breakfast. Seems some people didn't like the idea of a gay bed & breakfast in their community. The problem is, it's not. The owner raised that flag because it was given to him by his 12 yr old son. Not as a sybol for gays.

The reporter who originally reported the story (sorry my fault for confusing that point) never bothered to find out why the flag was flying. Never asked the owner his side, never got the FACTS. He just wrote a story based on conjecture and left it at that.

Actually, it does not matter and you confused nothing - a rainbow flag must ultimately mean different colour for different folk and all accepted. It's more about unity than it is about being gay, in my humble opinion. Thanks for the story, Dran.

I can't wait till Sarahh reads this.... :D

The thing is, there is NOTHING to do in Meade, Kansas other than gossip...

With all the cowboys out there, I wondered how many saw Brokeback Mountain....

Or my personal favorite, Christian Gay Pride?

Kansas is an interesting place, I must confess.

Many Swedish immigrants settled in Kansas, so the Dala horse is often seen hanging from a storefront instead of the Rainbow Flag.

The few counties that voted against Bush are located in the eastern side of the state. *ahem* Land of the Jayhawk.

Maybe all the fuss is because they didn't use The Wizard of Oz flag?

I think the Meade reporter just needed to stir up some shit in his small town. What a dick.

Problem is I see more and more everyday of stories that aren't news that are making National headlines. "The Branjolina Baby", "Tom and Katie" etc. Who the fuck cares?

Real stories like the Caledonia Blockade and The Indian Trust lawsuit get no coverage at all. Those are real stories about peoples rights being trampled.

Then you get these reporters, and there's a lot of them these days, that write a story that they didn't even properly research. Most of the have a line in them about, "'The real persons' involved were unavailable for comment." But what that really means is, "I couldn't be arsed to actually call them." or, "I talked to them for some time but they showed me everything I was about to write was complete bullshit and I couldn't have them ruining a perfectly inflamatory piece that might get me hired at USA Today."

Freedom of the press has been taken WAY too far over the last decade or two, and it seems the press can't be held accountable.

I think human rights are wonderful - I also think we should start asking ourselves do any of us have any rights? And Caledonia was covered in at least Canada and Portugal and other parts of Europe? Only American news did not cover it. What does that say?

Yes.

But they are able, quite easily and comfortably, to conveniently ignore whatever factual information they wish.

I still hear from a few fundie groups that from Genesis they've determined the earth to be 6000 years old. Never MIND that dinosaur fossils have been found that date hundreds of millions of years back.

It's in the Bible. LITERALLY in the Bible. Must be true.

I just like the fact that some fuckwit has compared displaying a rainbow flag to being akin to "running up a Nazi flag in a Jewish neighbourhood."

Glad to know that he is against bigotry and hatred.

It's called information disease, sarahh.

It's not so much that they ignore it as their minds literally cannot perceive it. If a piece of information doesn't fit in with what they 'know' it never filters down to the point where their rational thinking processes can work on it.
