I was just watching a movie called guess who's coming to dinner, it's a 1967 film about interracial marriage. I have to say that it struck me the type of topics that come up. "Will your children have trouble?", "How will you deal with other people's reactions?", misconceptions about black Americans, religious beliefs etc... I think the surprising part was that in most of the situations you could insert gay into interracial. So here's my question, I keep hearing that gay marriage can't be compared to interracial marriage and it's insulting. I just don't get it, we're seeing the exact same legal battles and tactics, the exact same type of conflicts from the same groups, hell most of the arguments are just recycled. So why isn't their a comparison?

Starring Sydney Poitier (who rocks).

Heh, "insert"...

Anyway, I think it's at least in part because some blacks don't want to be compared to gays in any way.

Yeah but the majority of people I've heard claim it's a insult to make the comparison are white.
Same difference-- what they mean they don't want to allow that comparison, because look what happened in that arena.

And my friends who are black and queer all agree that the issues are identical.

It's a bullshit argument from bullshit arguers.

He does! I soooo want to watch they call me mister tibbs agian!

Shush you!

There are white people in D.C.? (Kidding!)

What else are these people besides white? Anything in particular or just all different kinds?

Good Morning All!

Harlot you strike a very valid point. People tend to forget that there was once a point in time where people were not allowed to legally marry "outside of their race."

I do believe that both conflicts are similar its just that with [some]Blacks now they tend to look at this from a religious viewpoint and want to believe that gay marriage is wrong because of the bible.

I truthfully believe that the problem we have here in the states is the inability to separate the church from the state.
