It's It's October and that means Halloween is just around the corner.
For most of us GLBT folks it means lots of fun (hopefully), food, festivites and of course, costumes.

For us this year we're going to invite some close friends for a "here at home" dinner complete with spooky music, decorations & lighting. Of course, hand out the Trick'or'Treat candy.

Any special way you're going to celebrate All Hallow's Eve?
Special events?

Also what's your favorite Halloween music, group or song?

Can't beat "Dead Man's Party" by Oingo Boingo.

I am hopefully going to dress in full regalia and go to a party hosted by a friend. I want/plan to be Willie Wonka. ^^

Last year, b/c I have short red hair and all, I went as Annie Lennox.

the song "transylvanian concubine" by rasputina is perfect for this time of the year...as is nick caves "red right hand".

i've seen a movie advertised~supposedly a gay horror movie. i can't recall the title of it either. its playing a few blocks away and ive been meaning to check it out (i think its called "hellbent").

also the instrumental soundtrack to the blair witch project: the book of shadows is intense mood music.

Ah yes, Oingo Boingo. Thanks for reminding me of that one. I'm sure I have it as I have most of their CDs.

Send us some pics! Last year a friend of mine went as Bjork with her infamous Swan costume outfit. He was stunning. :D

That's Bjork, not my friend.

Yes, I've heard alot about "Hellbent." Is it out on DVD yet? Supposed to be the first gay slasher movie.

Rasputina is perfect. One of my favorite spooky soundtracks is from the movie SUSPIRIA(Dir. Dario Argento).
The music is by goth-prog Italian group GOBLIN. Rare and hard to find in the stores. Try Limewire to download it. Very eerie stuff.

Ah, Halloween, the gay New Year.

I alwasy have the most Halloweened house on the block. I've got two big boxes of decorations, and I usually put out at least 4 ot 5 jack'o'lanterns.

I alwasy listen to some Raymond Scott on Halloween, it really fits the mood. There's some samples here if you don't know his stuff.

Yes, absolutely our gay New Year! Yeah, we're low-key this year in the sense we're not going out, but definitely outrageous in our decorations in and out of the house.

Man, I'd forgotten about Raymond Scott. Thanks for the link. One of the most innovative musicians of the 20th Cent. He was a friend & collaborator with Bob Moog, (who recently died). Moog, of the famous synthesizers used most prominently by Wendy Carlos and Keith Emerson.
Yes, great stuff for the season. It's on the playlist.

Thanks Q.

The areas of older homes in San Rafael and Pataluma are the best places to trick or treat. Really nice decorations and good times for the kid in all of us.
Yes, I remember being up in Santa Rosa one year. There's a definite atmosphere in that whole strip from Petaluma on up. I used to have some friends from San Rafael.

San Francisco knows how to do it up right. I'll be in Golden Gate Park for a Chet Helms Tribal Stomp on Sunday the 30th and then get back to the country before things get crazy over there. http://www.trps.org/Chet Tribal Stomp.htm
Wow, sounds like a really lively time. Will you have enough energy left afterwards?

Ha! great pics! Ah, The Castro! I miss those good 'ol days!

Am I the only one who thinks that Björks swan dress fitted her ?

What about thinking she was making a tribute to the famous writer Hans Christian Andersen ?

Well most danes does not celebrate halloween.

But if i should come into the halloween mood i would play Fear Of The Dark with Iron Maiden.

Well, millions of people who didn't have a clue who Bjork was before the swan dress knew who she was after, so I'd say it was a big success for her.

I like Bjork and I agree with you that she was definitely making a non-musical statement in this case.
Yes, I don't think many could see past it's novelty which is unfortunate.
Her music is innovative and cutting edge if not challenging which is why I like her.

Yes, I'm finding out many do not celebrate Halloween in Europe which is interesting as it's roots are from there.

Wow, I haven't heard Iron Maiden in a long time.

Thanks! I learned, putting that costume together, that in actuality, I look absolutely nothing like Annie herself. Gave me a new perspective on bone structure.

Sweet!!

This weekend http://www.exoticeroticball.com/ here.
I've never been since my guy isn't into it at all. A few years ago I might have been actually scared to go. Kinda like being scared of Harley riders or some other nonsense like that.

years ago
(whistle)

(boy)im a little boy
(man)no, im a great big man
(Boy)no, lets be little boys
(Spoken)a little while longer
maybe an hour
(man)no Steven we have to go back now
(both)isnt that our mum calling
(steven, steven, steven its time to come home)

I don't want to see you go
I don't even want to be there
I will cover up my eyes
And pray it goes away

You've only lived a minute of your life
I must be dreaming, please stop screaming

I don't like to hear you cry
You just don't know how deep that cuts me
So I will cover up my eyes
And it will go away

You've only lived a minute of your life
I must be dreaming, please stop screaming

STEVEN!
STEVEN!
I hear my name!
STEVEN!
Is someone calling me? I hear my name!
STEVEN!
That icy breath that whispers screams of pain!

I don't want to feel you die
But if that's the way that God has planned you
I'll put pennies on your eyes
And it will go away
See?

You've only lived a minute of your life
I must be dreaming

Steven....
Is someone calling me? No....
Steven....
I think I hear a voice--- it's outside the door!
STEVEN!
I hear my name!
STEVEN!
Is someone calling me? I hear my name!
STEVEN!
WHAT DO YOU WANT?
STEVEN!
WHAT DO YOU WANT? WHAT DO YOU WANT? WHAT-DO-YOU-WANT?

STEVEN!
STEVEN!
STEVEN!
I hear my name....

im down here in the basement
im so hungry and tired
i must be here sleep walking
mustn't i?

I get up from my easy chair
looking for my knife
following a trail of crimson spots
that lead into the night

suddenly with real eyes
i wake up and i realise
these crimson spots are
dripping from my head
ahh ooooohhhhhhhhh---

you make me feel like a man.

THE END

The Monster Mash. I know it's corny and cliched, but I still like it. Not only does it have an intriguing contrast of vocal styles, but it has a nice rhythm and it even tells a story. What more could you ask?

Yes, it will always be the all time Halloween classic song. Well, even if it is corny & cliched, Bobby "Boris" Pickett definitely hit the right note. Now there are "techno" remixes of it. Nothing is sacred to these DJs'!
