I'm going to a gay bar for the first time, i'm very curious but a little timid. Any help or suggestions for me

Pirate,

Personally i've always found gay bars more fun than straight bars. First off there is none of the "battle of the sexes" going on. There are none of the walls or the tension that you find in straight bars. The walls are all down in a gay bar. Everyone is generally just out having fun. Communication is a lot easier.

You didn't say whether you were gay or straight. If you're unsure, and a man flirts with you and you're not interested, just be up front about it, and he'll leave you alone.

One other piece advice - if you're going out to hook up - take a condom with you. People who did not live through the gay plague of the 80's and 90's, think that HIV has been erradicated. That's not the case. People are still catching the disease, and you have things like hepatitis and herpes to worry about.

Scared now? You should be. Because the vast majority of "carriers" out there are not going to tell you their health status.

Play safe.

Ok, maybe it's because I've had a glass of wine, but I cracked up at that link, onceburned.

Relax.

Remember that everyone who sees you there is there as well.

Don't feel any pressure, either to hook up, or to accept any unwanted approachs.

Have fun.

I'm actually straight, but the first bar I ever went to was a gay bar. Everyone there was friendly and comfortable to be with, the drinks were cheap and good, the atmosphere was awesome. I had a great time and got to know the guys there, and the woman who hung out there, and somebody got too much chineese food too so I even got to eat for free.

I don't know what all to compare it to, but I'd have to say gay bars are the awesomest of awesome places to go.
