gay apps?!

Recently saw a movie with an app that allows gay/bi men to know if other gay/bi men who also have this app are near by. Is this a real app or are there apps like this? Or is it entirely fictional?

No, not fictional. There are a ton of them. Grindr is just one of many.
Off the top of my head. Scruff, Jack'd, M2(manhunt), Hornet...
They are all pretty similar.

I don't really use one, but I like the GayCities app. It lets me know places nearby that are gay oriented or friendly, when I'm out of town.
