Map shows combined federal and state, click on here to see a breakdown. http://www.commonsensejunction.com/notes/gas-tax-rate.html

Interesting map, showing what each state charges in taxes for gasoline, per gallon. New York, appears to have highest gasoline taxes in the Nation. For those of you (us) who favor a Pigou tax, this is somewhat sobering . .

You mean somebody has to pay for the roads and bridges I drive on?

That's fucking crazy.

That's a big problem when your friendly local politician diverts taxes intended for that purpose to other vote-buying schemes.

I think Maryland is about to increase their tax. There's a petition or some such thing at my local 7-11 that the clerk always tries to get me to sign. I'm not a protester though and don't want my name on any kind of subversive document.

In an astonishingly short number of years, Maryland has gone from being Dixiecrat to a hideous-something indistinguishable from New Jersey or the Sovereign Socialist People's Republic of Taxachusetts.

Once upon a time, it was a nice place.

Try living in MoCo! We call it Berkley-East.

Ease up on the People's Republic - we elected Scott Brown

Maryland will gladly swap one of your exports ( Kathleen Kennedy Townsend ), Martin ( He Who Never Saw A Tax He Didn't Like) O'Malley**, Babs ("Big Mouth") Mikulski, a host of other demagogues— and a player to be named later— for one Brown.

That must be it. Concrete can't cost that much, and we can use Mexican labor.

We can cut taxes in half and not have to give up anything.

The tax in Conn is 49 cents and in Alaska it's 8 cents. Are you saying concrete costs 6 times as much in Conn as it does in Alaska?

I must be missing your point, in response to Trysail's post.

My point is that taxes are holding down the economy. If we didn't have gasoline taxes, we could all drive more and boost the economy.

The government owes me a road from my house to where ever I want to drive, so they need to get down to the real business of government and stop asking me for more money.

They wouldn't need to raise the tax if more people rode a bike. That would lower health care costs too.

I'm also tired of your lazy ass living off my taxes. Get a job, you freeloader.
