I've always posted my stories by uploading them as MSWord .doc files, but the last two stories I've tried to post have been rejected with the reason being:

"The file is not one we can open, came through garbled, or the text field is blank."

Two questions:
(1) Does anyone know what would cause this?
(2) Should I delete the rejected story and resubmit?

The editor said that your text was blank and the story hadn't been uploaded. Try uploading it again and submitting it. Number 2 makes the most sense to me.

Okay. I deleted the first version from my submissions page and resubmitted it, but I think it's too late. It was for the Halloween contest and I submitted it last Saturday the 18th but didn't hear about this garbled format problem until last night. I attached an explanatory note but I think I missed the deadline.

I know that this question's been answered a hundred times, but how do you submit a revised version of a story to replace a published version?

I made some corrections to my story called "The Bacchae", went and deleted the published version and then tried to upload the revised version (with a note) and was told that I already had a story by that name published. What did I do wrong? Do I have to give it a different title?

Use the original title with the word Revised on the end and add a note to the editor explaining.

Thank you, Snooper, and duh! I knew the information was somewhere. Where'd you find the WH reference?

I too have had many problems uploading them as MSWord. One story took three tries I now copy and paste to "Note Pad" then copy and paste to submit. Seems to work fine just one more step to make a mistake.

I was wondering I have a couple of stories I would very much like to make a few minor corrections. Announced to me from feedback If I correct then "revise" does the story counter/ratings reset back to zero?

No, when you submit a revised story the votes and hit counters remain.

Dr M: My explanation of how submit a revision is in about a dozen different places in this and the author's hangout forums. KM's wording of the same explanation can be found in as many, or more places in those two forums.

Unfortunately, Big Bill's minions seem not to have compatibility at the top of their list of priorities. Basically, MSWord isn't MSWord compatible (across versions) let alone across other WP formats. A7inchPhildo's advice is sound!

f5 (who's suffered from this fact in other contexts)
