"An undercover operation found that the majority of fake Obamacare applications submitted were approved by the health law's enrollment system.

Fake applicants were able to get subsidized insurance coverage in 11 of 18 attempts, according to a report from the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office. The agency conducted the sting operation to test the strength of the Affordable Care Act's eligibility-verification system.

The findings will be discussed at a House Ways and Means hearing Wednesday. They were revealed in an advance copy of the testimony from Seto Bagdoyan, head of GAO's Forensic Audits and Investigative Service, provided to the Associated Press.

The undercover investigators created fake identities by inventing Social Security numbers, income, and citizenship, and by counterfeiting documents.

Eleven of 12 fake online or telephone applications were approved, according to Bagdoyan. Five of six phone applications were successful, with the exception of one caller who declined to give a Social Security number. Six online applications were initially blocked by the verification system, but the investigators were able to find a workaround by going through the call center.

"The total amount of these credits for the 11 approved applications is about $2,500 monthly or about $30,000 annually," Bagdoyan said, according to a report from NBC. "We also obtained cost-sharing reduction subsidies, according to marketplace representatives, in at least nine of the 11 cases.""

Big surprise.

"Under the title (only-a-PR-person-could-make-up) "Providing Quality Benefits for Our Associates," Walmart - who employs 1.3 million people in America, has changed its eligibility standards for healthcare benefits. "Like every company," they explain "Walmart faces rising healthcare costs," and so are ending benefits for associates who work less than 30 hours a week."

Another big surprise.

And watch, they'll have another $1 billion in profit again. Oh yeah, healthcare is hurting the Walton family.

I realize the only point of having a business is to make money, as a general rule, but something is wrong when a very small percentage of the population of a country keeps getting obscenely wealthier while the vast majority keep getting poorer, in real terms. Laws like Obamacare just make things worse for the poor, not better, because they hurt more than they help. Something is going to have to give, sooner or later.

The best would have been single payer/"Medicare For All", but the GOP would have filibustered that to death. This is the best that could be done, with the climate that exists in Washington.

The GOP couldn't have stopped anything with a filibuster. Get that straight. They would have stopped Obamacare with a filibuster if they could have.

Yes. Now, can you answer my specific question in detail?

For one thing, Obamacare is costing millions of people their insurance coverage, obviously, including many who work for WalMart, obviously. And it will cost many millions more, as you will soon see.

The GOP couldn't have stopped anything with a filibuster. Get that straight. They would have stopped Obamacare with a filibuster if they could have.

Try that again. You just contradicted yourself.

If they could? You mean that the GOP didn't stop the Senate vote with an attempt at a filibuster?

Again, you contradicted yourself.

See, you didn't say there was a 60 super majority at the time, did you? You made contradictory statements.

No, I didn't contradict myself. The Republicans didn't have enough votes in the Senate to sustain a filibuster against Obamacare. That's why it passed.

Seriously, Zumi, Obamacare is a pile of shit. I know the Republicans didn't offer anything better, but what the Democrats came up with stinks. At some point we need to go to something like Medicare for all. Nothing less.

The Republicans didn't offer anything and still haven't. They still believe they'll repeal it, without offering anything in return.

Talk about screwing the poor.

At some point the majority of people in the country are going to have to realize both major parties are into screwing the poor.
