The journey begins with the loading of the jump ship The Pequod...Each group has its own section with a towel leading to the core section of the main ship. The ship uses faster-than-light propulsion system for making the jump to hyperspace. The main ship is more then just a rocket though and has many decks filled with places to meet. Otherwise the journey would take years by conventional ship. So quickly as possible equipment and supplies are moved from the terra farmed Mars surface to the loading platforms of space dock. After the equipment and supplies comes the large number of personnel who say their goodbyes, drink a few rounds before heading off to board the Pequod.

Loading and preparation for the journey takes about two weeks. You find between each section there are common areas, ballrooms, banquet halls, and even a few sports stadium setups. These afford crew members and colonists a chance to meet and mingle.

Appearing on your data pads with information about possible settlement sites and the climate in general. You do find the Colony did not do a very extensive scan of the planet though, and few landed on the surface to explore it first hand. Six premium sites show up above the rest on one of the three continents. These are considered the best because they all are equally balanced with farming, mining, and good land for urban development space. Each site has great potential and each borders the other.

More data can be called up on the computer system if requested…..

So it begins….you have 6 weeks before you arrive. May want to get to know each other and train. Hell not even all your settlers know each other. There is plenty to do before you see the planet.

Cahir rose from his bed and began his exercises. Push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks and curls. He was an old man, but still the toughest and strongest warrior of his people. he then took a shower "Ard righ," Cahir heard the voice of his aide Fionn "Aye, Fionn, what is it?" Cahir said "The colonists are ready for your speech my lord." Cahir came out of his shower. "Aye, lets prepare." Fionn handed Cahir his leggings and undershirt. "How do they look?" Cahir asked "Weak, but we'll make proper warriors out of them" Fionn said, referring to the colonists and expendables they had been granted. Cahir had Fionn aid him in putting on his ceremonial, though completely functional, power armor, and Fionn buckled Cahir's cape onto it. The old warrior then braided the sides of his hair and tied them back, and placed his diadem on his head. Then buckled his large broadsword around his waist. Slinging his faithful rifle over his head and shoulder. Cahir walked into the hall outside his quarters and motioned to his two guards, Cormach and Seamus, who followed him with Fionn just behind. They walked to The room where the colonists were all assembled. "---Bow your heads! I present my father and your High King, King Cahir O'Dochartaigh!" Cahirs son and warchief Eamon stepped down from the podium. The many soldiers who served under him in the past saluted him and bowed. "Warriors!" Cahir roared "We have undertaken a journey to bring honor to our fathers. To make Eire anew on a new world, a free Eire. One day we will return to the land made fertile on the blood of our ancestors and destroy the anglo saxon who disgraces it!" "EIREANNNNNN!" a roar went up from the crowd and the warriors rattled their weapons. "Today tour the ship, learn what you can about the other groups, for they may one day be our enemies. Tomorrow, every man woman and child will report for exercises and training in one of the stadiums." he said and, in a word he used more then any other in his life as a military commander, he concluded "DISMISSED"

David West sat in his quarters. He had an absolute ton of documention strewn over his desk. Who would have thaught being a colonial magistrate would involve so much paperwork? First off, he had legal waver forms that meant that, if anything happened to the colonists under his care, the company wouldn't be held liable. He hated to sign it, but if he didn't, no doubt they'd find someone who would. It's how businesses worked, even research and development firms.

Next up, he had allocation reports telling him just how much space was diverted to one item or another, just how much power would be required and estimated sustainable food levels apon arival. He knew all this was neccisary, but surely his heads of staff could handle it better.

And then there were the requisition requests coming in from Saunders' department. Hell, they'd hardly left Mars, and already the scientists were trying to grab up what they could for the 'betterment of science'. David sighed. He knew that this was going to be a primarily research based colony, and that was the reason for all the funding, but if he just acceded to all their demands, how would the farmers live and grow crops?

Picking up his complimentary laptop, David stood and left his quarters. He'd scanned most of the reports and requests onto it's hard drive, and hoped that once he was out and about, he would have a clearer head for compleating everything....

William strode into the meeting room from outside. His first order of business was to set the electronic scrambler down on the table and flip the switch on, thusly ensuring the ruination of any who might have been trying to snoop. The second order of business was to set the bottle of amber liquid down next to Jacob, who promptly took it, pouring a bit into his cup before handing it off to the next.

"Drink up guys. God only knows when we might get a bit more in space." He said. "Anyway, I have all our quarters and storage assignments arranged, so what's our competition on this trip?"

Dimitri sifted through a few of his notes before anwsering. "Well, we have a mining corp, 'GEM' or some such thing, a pack of Irish thugs who think they're being led by a king or some such crap and a pack of energy R and D guys...not so sure about them yet. Then there's us....and I'm not so sure about us either."

"Well, I've looked over our assets...it's mostly crap, but we have some good potential." William continued. "We can divide the assets into three staging areas, mechanical, medical and research. Jake, John and Austin, that's gonna be your department. Get them sorted out as best you can and make sure the folks know what they're assignments are gonna be. I want everyone to know when, where and what once we make planetfall. We got the stuff for a good machine shop, a full hospital and a research lab. Anything we don't have, we have about two weeks to damn well find it. Techie, 'finding it' is gonna be your job. Hack into the city net and the Corporate database if you have too. Find us some good shit and get it assigned to us or scrounge up some cash to pay for it. Specifically, I want high tech automation, electronics, robotics and spare parts, LOTS of spare parts. I have automated assembly lines in mind and I want to make sure we can do it."

"I've also noticed that there are no specific argiculture assets going on this trip, so we're going to need food replicators, water purifiers and the like. I'd also like some seed for basic crops, grain, potatoes, corn and the like. We can also get alot of prefab stuff which won't take up alot of space, concrete mix, polymers, plastics, stuff like that. Finally, we're going to need transports. Fast and mobile over heavy stuff, but we'll probably need some heavy haulers too. Keep that in mind. Most importantly, I've requested a top of the line, crystal powered Maxi-charge 5000 independant generaror for our colony, but I'd like more generators. We're going to need alot of power up there."

"And soooo...on to the special stuff. We have two hundred robots...I want more and I don't care how so long as it doesn't come back to us. We also have two hundred XP's, all male." William said, referring to the cloned humans. "In fact, all the XP's on this trip are male. Techie, see if you can get that changed. I'd like them 100 and 100. Once you do, I have some special programing for their brain tapes once they're grown. Lazlo, I need your contacts and expertise for some special requests. First off, I'd like a cloning vat of our own if we can get one. I'd also like to get our own communications satalite in storage. Once we get in orbit around the new colony, then we can launch it before landing. Finally, see if we can get some heavy grade military equipment along for this ride. We don't have much in the way of a combat force, so we could use some firepower. I wouldn't mind some VTOL craft either."
"Austin, you and I have a project regarding the stuff we picked up from the Kajiu guys. Lets see if we can reverse engineer their shield generators and weapons and make them a bit more flexible for our own purposes."

William took a final swig of his drink and set the shot glass upside down. "Alright boys, Let's make this shit happen."

GEM.............................board meeting

The board members met in the small board room that had been secured by our security force. Each member had a listing of their particular assignments. We were keeping the secuirty force busy. we were keeping a very close watch over our gear and equipment. The security force had also set up a traing program for all members of our party. No acception, physical fittness was important and I wanted our people in shape when we landed.

We took Robert's suggestion and we were going to devide up along military lines untill had setup our main camp. When everything was set up and improving, we would get an elected council to take over civil matters. GEM would keep control of the mining, exploration and military.

I would address the colonists tomorrow and to inform them what they would expect to find on the planets surface. over the following days each and every man woman and child would have their assignments. If any had a skill that was not posted and they could better serve in another assignment, they were to go thru their training officer.

Adjustments would continue, right up and through the landing and the costruction of our main compound. We were going to need everyone when we got down on the surface and if changing assigments was a way to keep our people happy, we would do almost anything to keep our people happy and loyal.

The meeting ajourned and each took his list and information and headed to their areas to start their tasks. there was a lot to be done still.

Erin Nova

Cahir strode into the boardroom they had been supplied with for his meeting with his council. The guards at the door snapped to attention and saluted with a fist to the chest and they opened the door. Fionn walked in first and announced "King Cahir." The assorted warriors stood and saluted as Cahir walked in. "Failte, Ard Righ!" his council said. "As you were." Cahir took his seat and the others followed. "Michael, whats our situation?" Cahir asked. "My lord, we have 200 of our men and their families, who, as you know, will fight for you to the end. We also have 100 other colonists given to us by the company, 200 clones, and 200 robots, which are men are trying to figure out if they can put weapons on. Of course all your warriors are prepared with all the necessary implements of war. We have food, drink, and equipment." "Very good" Cahir said "Hugh, who else is on this expedition?" "My lord, we have three rivals at this time. A group of petty thieves calling themselves 'Last Chance Corporated' they seem to be a bunch of jack rolling dandy's unskilled in war. There is a mining company called GEM that seem to pose no threat, and a group doing research on energy applications who seem to be peaceful scientists. In my opinion we should ally with them." "Thank you Hugh." "I am yours to command my king" "Warriors and chiefs," Cahir started "I want constant surveillance on this Last Chance Corporated creature. Anything suspicious, I want to know about it. Keep an eye on the miners, for I would like to know what they are mining. Extend our friendship and support in war to the scientists, I feel we can benefit each other." At that, Fionn brought in a keg of stout and each advisors personal aide served their master a pint of it. "To the future!" Cahir said "Slainte!" his council yelled, and they drank.

Fionn tells you later that your speech to your people went over well. Both family and fighters thought it went well. The the retaking of the homeland did not go over so well with the settlers who think of themselves as explorers. The Expendables just look at is as part of their job. They follow orders with little question and would march with you to London if you wanted but with no more enthusiasm then they would have if you asked them to build an outhouse. Still over all your people are in good spirits about this venture.

All the different factions in you group find different ways to pass the time when they are not doing things to prepare for the landing or L-DAY. Few like the space onboard the dropship so most chose to stay on the mainship until L-DAY. In several of the common areas there fireplaces with tables and bars nearby and they become the popular hangout spots. The fire gives off a warm feeling even if only an illusion and some areas are even named after favorite pubs. With different shifts and living areas all the factions keep to their own areas with some mingling.

The Expendables continually check their gear for the landing many though are interested in gaining their stripes though. Stripes are given for each successful assignment completed then change for each ten assignments completed. Around the campfire they tell of the legends among their people the ones who have completed 50, 60, even 75 plus missions involving everything from working on space stations, to founding colonies, to combat assignments fighting Aliens and robots. These individuals are the elders of the tribe and some hope to gain their stripes in time. The Settlers behave similarly as they check their gear and go over their training every day. They have morning PT together along with group meals and team building. On there own they setup classes sharing skills they picked up prior to joining Colony Inc. Many revolve around good secondary skills like cooking, gardening, karate, fencing, and computers. There are many craftmen among them and your people and many express interest in building real workshops after the colony is secured. Your warriors do spend a lot of time with their families but are still soldiers in need of work to keep themselves busy. The stand guard over the supplies often armed to the teeth and are always having some kind of a drill. The long corridors are good for long runs, and there are gyms with weights as well as areas with mats built into the floors perfect for wrestling and martial arts training. The families are happy be reuntied and to see so many friends with no danger around them at least until they land. Many of the children play soccer in the corridors and run around in medieval peasant clothes that are homemade. Spirits are high and all are waiting for what is next.

Ahane and his wife Jana watch their three children nearby before they go back to their own tasks and Jana's cousin Sosanna takes them to prayer group. Ahane goes back to his axe throwing with his friends and Jana sits down reading a book about of homewold agriculture.

The Bots are very intelligent creatures who learn from experiences and even talk with their human coworkers though conversations are limited. You do see though when a soccer ball rolls to a group them one eagerly kicks it back to the children. One even engages Eoghain in a game of chess with takes a long time to complete with #151 winning a difficult match and even shakes Eoghain's hand afterwards. The short little guys are just shy of 5' and are painted black with a glowing green visor. They kindly inform you that they are not setup for combat and are workers.

David West

Bot #112 refills your coffee as you go through the pile of papers and data pads while Bot #56 helps your personal assistant Laura setup your four Frontier computers in your quarters (a special gift to party leader). Tough and easily setup you may as well get them up and running before L-Day. The quarter on the main ship are much preferred to the small space assigned to each person on the drop ship so most of the personal items are on the mainship while the drop has most of the group's largest items with farmers coming and going feeding the live stock onboard. They inform you that they have enough supplies for three much or so until crops are grown. We the data does tell of the soil it is some of the most fertile on the planet and the farmers are looking forward to the challange of building new farms. Your scientist crowd into common areas and have labs setup in them along with small research libraries. This crowds the spaces up and many discussions about physics, robotics, and theories go on for hours infront of the fire. More then a few have tried to "improve" or "upgrade" the Bots and many stay away from these wrench weilding madmen. You have noticed some that have been changed though. One Bot climbs like a chimp now and another had become skilled at cooking kolsher food. The hard working country folk mix with caffeine drinking science geeks. Needless to say a farmer doesn't want to hear what the right way is to running a farm and a scientist doesn't want to hear it is pointless to have a lab at home and work. The Settlers with the most diverse backgrounds mix easily with both though since many have been in both the university and rural enviroments. The Settlers otherwise are pairing off hanging out and working on the dropship. They go back to their training roots checking supplies and running drills. They practice martail arts workouts, have classes on flying the drop ship and how to take it apart once you land and mingle with the scientist crowd. The Expendables spend some of time with the scientist trying to learn all they can to enhance their ablities in the field. Otherwise they spend time among their own practicing skills like spear making, rock climbing, and fire making after disabling heat sensors.

Ned Kingsly talks your ear off one day at lunch about his idea for a multiple use helicopter that can be used for rescues, combat, and even crop dusting and can hold 14 passangers. He says he will build a prototype with odds and ends and have it ready some time after L-DAY. Right now it is called Pioneer #1. His wife Phyllis yawns as she continues to type her paper on astro physics for the party newsletter. She rubs her belly. She smiles and can't wait to have the first child born on the colony. A scuba diver named Bobby Mann sits at the next table over with Sally Ridgeway who is a farmer's daughter but also a school teacher like her mother. Her father is a fire captain as well as farmer and has already spoken to you about starting a volunteer department. The young couple talk about many plans once they arrive including him treaching her to dive and her teaching him how a farm works.

William Stargazer

The boys look alittle overwelmed by your list of requests, but wait until your finished taking notes as they go through the meeting. Jake, John, and Austin report that there is no problem setting up the equipment and gear the way you want it and assign Settlers and Expendables working on it with in the hour. Soon cargo sleds are moving the equipment out into the main corridor while things are moved around and placed for the best access on L-DAY. Techie on the other hand reports back in a few days. Not wanting to leave anything techincal alone you find that your intercom system now shows video. His report goes something like....

"Okay boss been here in the pit for at least 12 plus hours and here is what I have come up with," he always setups a computer lab in a space cargo bay with the ton of is own equipment and a few Bots and sets to work fueled by Space Cola and frozen pizzas.

"Good news and bad news here...Okay setup a few Caymen accounts for the company and even got some funding. Had to dump your Star Tech stock to start things rolling but you made out okay on that front. Good news is that an small custom ATV maker went under and their line was forsale keep with plenty of spare parts for the standard 10 person rigg. Think the market was flooded is all. As to robots not as good but a few manufactures want to make deals in the future. The Bots we have are it for awhile unless I pulls something off with the military. They are upgrading their maintence Bots for NATO bases back on earth most of them just clean and repair bases that have practically been abandon. Thanks to the law the military has to consider selling them to new colonies even if at a reduced price. The farm stuff not to hard and the ship with the second wave will be carrying some unofficial cargo for us when it arrives. Only problem is getting it to the surface. But I am working on that."

After a five minture brake where you hear him use the bathroom he returns to the screen.

"Under the colonial supply law we can get stuff besides the Bots but I want to review the list. The military has been pawning off damaged gear as of late and called it combat tested. Did get you you're satelite though before we left. Defense Department one. Good not great but it was cheap."

Lazlo sends you a legal memo concerning his views on the cloning issue. The note reads..."Will look the military isn't found of passing their combat aircraft off to civilian groups hell they don't always like selling them to allies but I am making and argument with using the Colonial Defense Act. That may give us the result we want but we will have to go through a lot of red tape. On the cloning front there is some good news. When the Earth Coalition forces took the Lunar base after two years of fighting most of the equipment taken was left in warehouses and not restricted. In fact it was allowed for open sale as part of the need for development of Alien equipment. Thing was the government was to open that this stuff being forsale. The thought is that some cloning vats are among this stuff classified forsale, but they are only selling whole lots. Have to try and find the right one but may end up with some junk too. To order more XP's is easy and up to the buyer if they want them male or female or sterile."

Austin reports to you within a few weeks of the journey that he has a handle on a lot of the Kajiu stuff. The weapons were pretty straight forward and the Death Rays are really large powerful Alien built lazers. Not all invaders use plasma weapons. The jumpsuits are popular and many of your people start wearing them around the ship. What he does find from the shield generators that they are very impressive and well built. He figures they can be built again and they can be used as an alternative source of power for farmer. Thing is it shields or power they can't do both at the same time and he doesn't recomend switching.

Your technicians and ex-military people seem to get a long pretty well and happy voices and laughter can be heard from all over the common areas. The military types start clubs like a running, weight lifting, hunting, and judo clubs. The techicians are busy with all the plans of things to build and what they will do with the Kajiu gear. Well the military people seem to have traveled with everything they need and alittle extra the tech types bring everything and the kitchen sink. They carry at least double what the average settler carries.

Settler Arthur Simms a former tennis pro sits down with Cassie Smith a former civilian security guard at a military facility. They are reading the same book by the fire and chat about it over a cup off coffee. Across from them behind the bar Bot #63 practices is newly loaded bartending craft as the normal bartender a programmer sits back and plays with his laptop.

ANDREW GRANT

The board meaning goes well and everyone is happy that there is a company plan. Skills are reviewed and assignments are handed out and at every bar and fireside people chat about their new jobs. Though many want to see a set time on a military model for control before an elected government they understand it is temporay. As ususal they find confort in the corporate structure even if they want to go on a bold adventure they like having a manual.

The Expandables also like having a structure that gives them order and seem up to the task. Since you know many of the recruits it seems like an endless party. Drinking with old school friends, dinners with former coworkers, and basketball with friends and cousins. The military types seem to adjust well to the ship board life and when not preparing for the next stage be stay they are finding other things to do onboard ship. A boxing league has been setup already along with many darts teams, and one common area already has a micro Brewery wear L-DAY Ale is being made. The children and some adults are asking if they can break open the star burger containers already. The Lunar recruits all women mingle among the other factions. Because some mines were shut down for months at a time to be made safe or delayed because of Alien raids these women have many other secondary professions. The list once sent to you includes everything from exotic dancers, to mechanics, to police officers, to store clerks. They seem happy to have a stready assignment that will provide them with plenty of work for years. All seem to be in high spirits.

Mike Skylar who was President of Industry and Development club back in college tells you one night at the bar that he beleives that you can use the drowship to supply the majority of materials for the main compound. Within 30 of landing he tells you they will be up and running. At least he thinks so anyway. Lunar miner Amanda Pike slams down another shot of whiskey easily defeating Mark Cage a frat boy who is an experienced carpenter. If the win was in any doubt after Amanda stacks her glass Cage falls to the floor as laughter fills the room. After he is taken to the infirmary jokes continue and business plans are disgusted.

OOC: Jagged, this is all role play, but therin is some additional turn information as well as questions to be answered if possible.

IC:
William sat in his cubicle which doubled as his bedroom, study, office, den and occasionally, his workshop. He was currently reviewing the landing sites for current information on them, terrain and potentials, then had sumitted his primary and secondary requests, he had also fired off nearly a dozen request forms for everything from copper tubing to chemicals to new XP's. Fortunatly, his time in the military and expecially the military research centers had made him adapt at the wonderfully chaotic and confusing world of 'Red Tape'.

Specifically, William was trying to gather what information could be had about this new world. Terrain types, current weather conditions, seasonal changes, rainfall, sunlight and radiation dangers as well as indigenous animal and plant life. Naturally, this would be an Earth-like world if it was being colonized, but William's experience had taught him that 'like' is a rather broad definition. No harm in knowing what was out there.

He had also set up two more social events. The first was a betting pool he was running for the local and wider populace, offering senarious in which the bookies would then offer odds on and send back to him. Things like 'which group would make planetfall first, who would encounter aliens first, which group would be doing the best in 6 months and most interestingly, which group would outlast the others..of which Will noted his own group was noted as 'going out first' with some irritation, and many more. What Will especially liked, what that he, as the organizer, got a cut of every bet made as well as control of the accounts. Not a bad little pool...and it was only just begining.
The second was a catered party to take place in one of the off-site warehouses for the members of his expedition, Colony Team #3 as well as invited guests, like the Captain, first officer, chief engineer and head of security for the Pequat. It was basically a big Meet-and-Greet for his members to get to know each other as well as a chance of the leadership to introduce themselves in a casual atmosphere. It also offered the opportunity for them all to be given their living quarters, travel equipment and find out their skills and qualifications. It was all being paid for independently, away from the ship and Colony Inc. at government expence. Afterall, Planetary governors have a rather broad bugetary and multiple accountants, all of which were constantly being accessed by a score or more aides and dignitaries for a zillion different functions....they'd never miss it anyway.

There was a knock at the door, William telling them to enter as he placed a 500 credit bet on his own group to make planetfall first as well as a second 500 credit bet on his own group to survive, in spite of his current 4 to 1 odds. Hah! Take that!

Jacob and Lazlo walked in, settling themselves around the rather cramped room. William had asked both to see him, so was not surprised by the visit.

"Got the tally." Jacob started. " Nearly all of our guys have military experience and training, a good handfull even have some combat experience of some sort. Even some of the colonists have a smattering of service history thought not so advanced." he took a deep breath and continued. "As far as those who have combat infantry training or can even handle a weapon without shooting themselves and are willing and capable to do it again, we have 38....That's including me."

William raised an eyebrow. "Thirty-eight? That's it?? Including you and me??"

"Yup...but it's not all bad, of the 38, there's a whopping six who have some special forces training of some sort...including me." Jake answered, his voice dripping with scarcasm. " and I not 'you and me', just me."
Will scowled at Jake, who had a momentary look of 'should I say it or not'. "Y'know Will, I know you've done three years on a starship, even captained one for a bit and I know your worth in a scrap, but...you always sucked as a soldier." he said, apparently deciding to 'say it'.
Lazlo stifled a laugh from where he lay on William's bunk and Will gave him a scathing glare, but addressed Jake still.

"So is there any good news?"

"Oh yeah," Jake offered. "We have over 400military trained personnel, to include pilots, maintenence, ammo guys, heavy equipment operators, armored vehicle specialists, logistics and the like. More importantly, we have a good bunch of analysists, war planners, graphics and C.I.C. types, and stratigists. Basically, we have everything we'd ever need to support, organize and maintain an army, and they guys to plan, organize, execute and lead a fight for that army....we just don't actually [/i]have[/i] a fighting force to speak of."

What about the clones" Lazlo offered, but Jacob raised one hand, waggling it in a 'so-so' indication.
"You don't 'grow' good soldiers, you train them up and 'make' them. They're sort of OK against aliens, but they have ...difficulty...against other humans."

"What about weapons and equipment?" Will continued.

"We have a crapload of small arms, ammo's OK so far. More than we have men to use them in fact. And we have the helocopters, several light vehicles and the like that have weapon mounts or we can install them, and about 30 or so hoverbikes so far. Fast and light like you asked and more are coming as we can gather them. Best thing I can say is we picked up two osprey-type VTOL cargo planes, both disassembled and crated. Also got some hand held SAM type missiles, vehicle mounted rocket packs, heavy machine guns and that kind of thing. Can't say we have a tank or anything, but we could scrounge up some technicals or armored car like things if we had to."
"Then there's stuff, like a ground search Scanner systems targeting computers, communication equipment, blah, blah, blah...We're doing pretty good there. Best damn equipted and supported army we never had."

"So straight talk, what happens if we get attacked?"

"Well, we could analyse their force, hopefully develop a good battle plan, pound the hell out of them with our vehicle mounted weapondry....then get the shit kicked out of us."

"Love you too Jake." Will grimmaced, wondering if it was too late to change his bet. Jake only shrugged, indicating his opinion.

"Anyway," Will continued, moving hs attention onto Lazlo. "I was thinking....why are we all here on this expedition?....You' know, after all the ego pumping, pretending, propaganda BS is done with?"

Lazlo shrugged. "Profit." he said plainly. "We all wanna be rich."

"Yup." Will agreed. "And here we are, being given this happy little ride, with Colony Inc. and all their stuff at our beck and call...hell, we even have corporate sponsors for Chrissake.... I'm willing to bet that eventually some asshole in a nice suit and with a govermnent writ, is gonna show up with a big fat bill. Laz, I need you to find out just what the hell is behind the scenes with this colonization trip. It might be on the level, but I'll bet that someone wants their cut for all of this."

G.E. & M. (GEM)

The board has met every day and at times the supervisors and mangers of the various departments also made direct inport to us. Almost all our first goals had been met. But now there was a completly new set of objectives that had to be met.

The first order of bussines was to settle on wether we wanted to host a banquet for the three other groups leaders. After a period of discussion we all agreed to make an invitation to the three other groups leaders to a banquet.

GREETINGS...............The Board of Grant Exploration and Mining extend to you an invitation to attend a banquet to toast the sucess of our future endevors and to foster a better understanding and dialog between our groups. The board and I hope that you will accept this invitation. ****** Andrew Grant CEO/GEM and President of the board.

Along with the invitation was sent a letter outling the protocal of the banquet and asking if there was anything that each group may want or to inform us of any special requirements, such as food or drink.

The letter also spelled out the what was needed to be discussed. We all had a fair idea of what each group was set up for and it was hoped that each would give a more detailed discription of their colony and it's objectives.

To discuss landing and choices of landing sites. How to make the choices and when. Then there was the question of the amount to be set on for the amount to barter or to purchase from each other. To set up trade and commerace between the colonies. To set and approve the exchange of information about our new planet. (ie water, minerals, aliens, inhabitants)

We asked for an rsvp and any requests that they had, including security and number of there group to attend. The invittion was to be hand carried and delivered directly to the leaders of each group.

Cahir and Eoghain fought. Blades locked, then there was a flash of movement and Eoghain was on his back, with his fathers sword at his neck. "Perhaps I should go easy on you son?" Cahir joked with a twinkle in his eye. "Perhaps I should actually try in the future" Eoghain mocked, knowing he had been soundly and fairly beaten. Fionn entered the room. "A message from GEM" Fionn said "What is it lad?" Cahir said wiping the sweat from his face. "They invite you to a banquet for the leaders of the four colonies, they ask you to rsvp with any requests or desires." Cahir thought for a moment "Very well, tell them that Eoghain and I shall attend with two guards apiece, and furthermore that Erin Nova shall provide 2 kegs of stout and a fat roast pig for the festivities. Fionn, take my youngest son Eamon, both of you in full garb of war, and deliver this message." "Why dressed for war, my lord?" "To show them that Erin Nova is always ready for battle. First impressions are key." Fionn saluted and walked out
Cahir turned to Eoghain "Spears this time?" and tossed him a halberd

GEM Board meeting:

when we had completed the invitation and the letter we had it made up and sent to the other parties.

We resumed our meeting to discuss pressing issues for our group. Preperations for landing were moving along and since we had loaded in the order to offload we were well ahead in that area.

Robert reported that the training and physical fitness was moving along and everyone including the children where getting into good shape. There was very few complaints and the instructors were hard pressed to keep everyone involved and inspired. They were meeting the challenge and all personell would be in good physical shaped upon landing.

On the flip side, he was only able to find an additional 50 able bodied soldiers with any any combat experience. Almost all out people had had some military training (that's why we chose them). We do have a very good support and supply for our combat unit. I have 150 soldiers and 11 officiers with arms for all our personel. Munitions was not a problem. Transportaton was on the short side.

WrencH reported that all vechiles were all set and ready to deploy. The mechanics would check and double check before L-Day. He made a check of the pod and said we would be able to use 90/95 %. All he would need was a blueprint or drawing or idea of what was needed and he would be able to fabricate it to our needs.

Edward reported on the the three other groups. Erin Nova was the largest and by all aspects had the largest military group as well. Their base was that of the old feudal order and was led by their King. Last Chance Corp. was a loosely based group and was not sure of their mission. They are thought to be the ones trying to penetrate our computers and pod, but not definiate proof. The third group was a R&D on energy and agriculture. Well organized with only a small defense force from what we could observe.

Edward recomends if alliances are to be made, Erin Nova would be best for our future. Erin Nova could most likely defeat any two of the smaller groups and even all three. With us being the smallest group it would make sense to align ourselves with the strongest. With other groups coming soon, we should be ready to move and make friends with all the colonies and try not to have a war or struggle for power to soon.

The R&D group would be our second choice as we could share infomation on power. Our mining and their tech. we could be good trading partners. The trading and commerace between the colonies will be important and we should keep that in mind too. We all will not be able to supply all our needs and so we will really need each other in the coming months.

Agusta Perez informs us that the two communications satillites and all surface communications are all set and ready to go. The captain of the Pequod said we would be able to deploy the communication birds once we are in orbit. Other groups have also made the request. She also notes that she is wary of "colony Inc". Mite they just put spy satilites over the planet to keep track of us? Something to think about. Our little secret is still secure, but says no more. We are all aware of what she is talking about.

We all hope to hear from the others as soon as possible so that we can set up the banquet and get to know our counterparts.

After a long session, we close and each heads off to continue with their duties. Time is passing quickly and we soon will be on the planet.

Fionn and Eamon walked through the ship in full armor and armed to the teeth. Eamon carried a halberd and Fionn his large two handed staff axe. Eamon was a strong lad of 16 years and the youngest of the kings sons "What message do we carry Fionn?" Eamon asked "Your fathers acceptance of an invitation to a banquet?" "Aren't these people our enemies?" "Nay boyo not enemies, rivals perhaps, but they could become allies, and if they become enemies it will be good to know them." Fionn said "Am I to go to this banquet?" eamon asked "Nay lad, your Father and Eoghain with their wives and guards will go. Here it is." Fionn said gesturing to the door of the president of GEM. "Messengers from King Cahir of Erin Nova" he announced

William looked up when there was another knock on his door. He quickly looked at his chonometer, noting that he wasn't expecting anyone at this particular point in time. Opening the door, he recieved a formal looking letter.

GREETINGS...............The Board of Grant Exploration and Mining extend to you an invitation to attend a banquet to toast the sucess of our future endevors and to foster a better understanding and dialog between our groups. Will nodded his head. "Interesting, I'll be there."
He told the messenger. Once the man left, Will clicked on his monitor screen.
"Hey Lazlo. Wanna go to a party?"

*****************************************
The two showed up easilly enough, William was wearing a better-than-average set of common, day clothes but Lazlo, ever the fop, was immaculatly dressed in a deep grey three piece.

"We're here, " He said, showing his invitation. "So who is Mr. Grant?"

David had listened in to the various conversations going on in the main mess hall. Most people that had talked to him had several good ideas. Well, they were scientists and farmers. Of course they would have good ideas when combined together! He had made several notes on each plan. He'd review them all later, and see about approval. Also, he'd have to set up some sort of general meeting once they made planetfall. That way, any and all ideas could be put forward to a commitee.

Making his way back to his quarters, he say that one of his bots had been handed an invitation letter. Taking it off the bot, he read it over. So. G.E.M wanted to have a conferance prior to L-Day? Fine. He'd attend. The least it would do for him is to find out about the motivations behind the other three groups onboard. He sent out a call for his three cheifs of staff, before setting his laptop down and taking a seat

It wasn't long before Miss Saunders, Mr McClure and Mr Smith entered his quarters. "Good to see you all. I trust you're all prepared for L-Day?" All three nodded. "Good. Now, I've had a message delivered from G.E.M. They want a meeting supposedly to get aquainted. They are willing to make special arrangements, so I want suggestions here"

James McClure spoke up first. "Well sah, I reckon' yeh betteh be takin' a couple o' guards. Jus' in case, y'knoo" Andrew Smith nodded. "Agreed. But don't make an overt show of force. Could be taken the wrong way, and with our resources, that could be a very bad move" Abigail chimed in after. "I'd like to accompany you sir. Might put them all more at ease if one of your cheifs of staff is present too"

David thaught on all their suggestions. "Alright. Make it happen people. Two guards, basic equipment only. James, that's your job. Abigail, you see to getting both you and me a sidearm of some kind each. Personal protection kind of stuff. Andrew, you make sure everyone is prepared for L-Day. I want everything to go smoothly apon planetfall."

The three nodded and walked out. Summoning one of his bots, he handed it a confirmation reply, headded on F.E.U paper, and sent it off to deliver to G.E.M

William had only just stepped into the room, after being told that their host hadn't quite arrived yet, when another group arrived behind him. They had to look of 'business types' as it was and although he didn't quite recognize 'F.E.U.', it surely wasn't GEM, nor were they carrying medeval weapondry, so they weren't the Irish either.

"Hello." he said, introducing himself. "William Stargazer, Team Three and this is my associate, Lazlo Norton. You must be from the Research Development Team. Pleasure to meet a fellow group of engineers."

.[/I] Having received a positive reply from all the groups, we had the hall set up in a large square. Seating on the outside so everyone could see each other. On each side would sit the all the members of each group. The food and drink would be setup against one wall and would be served from there, leaving all items in plain sight. Another set of tables on the opposite wall would hold all the sweets, cakes, candies, Items to be in short supply on the planet. Tables along the third wall held all the available paperwork and information on the planet. Suggestions on how to draw lots for landing sites and order for leaving then pequod. The table on the opposite side from the planet, held the basic information on each group. All arrangements were complete with even the roasted pig and grog set on the table, a gift from Erin Nova [/COLOR

The Grant Brothers and their spouses would attend and Agusta Perez would handle security both in the hall and outside. Nobody was to come within half a corridor of the banquet hall. Our best chefs were working on the diner and would do the serving. The women would serve our guests their food and drink. A small band was put together to play during diner and the entertainment.

The entry room was set with easy chairs and areas set aside so the guests would be able to speak with others without being interrupted, but be in sight to all. There was a bar with several bartenders and as many barmaids to serve ur guests.

The Grant's arrived and moved into the entry room/lounge. introductions were made to those who had already arrived and our offer of liquid refreshment was accepted.

Cahir with his wife Brigid, and Eoghain with his wife Sionainn, entered the banquet hall. Cahir and Eoghain resplendent in full suits of power armor, with tartan capes carrying their finest weapons. Cahir wore armor of a deep, hunter green, wearing his trusty broadsword on his hip and a crown on his head, his grey hair braided and tied back, and his beard in 3 braids. Eoghain wore armor grey as the north atlantic, with a small circlet, and his red hair done like his fathers, he walked with a powerful halberd in his hand as a staff. Queen Brigid and Princess Sionainn barefoot, in beautiful gowns of purple and green. Cormach, one of the kings guard carrying an axe. "The King and Queen of Erin Nova, Cahir and Brigid O'Dochartaigh" he announced. William, one of Eoghain's guards, carrying a spear. "Warchief of Erin Nova and his wife, Eoghain and Sionainn O'Dochartaigh." They all entered into the room. "Greetings to all" Cahir said.

William raised his cup of brandy in return to Cahir's greeting but was a bit flabberghasted at the extremity and eccentricity the man exhibited. Ah well, to each their own he supposed. Towards the long table, Lazlo was taking a copy of the information that was being offered on the landing sites, but it was less inclusive and older than the raw data William had already gotten earlier.

"Mr. Grant, I thank you for your wonderous taste in fine liquor's as well as your generosity for hosting this party, but why draw lots at all? We have the information about the landing sites and they are all pre-designated. Why not simply request the site you want as best supports the design and need for your colony to the captain of the Pequot? There is plenty of room to spare."

"My team has already submitted a request for a site and the first available launch time."

Cahir and Eoghain bore huge tankards of stout, while their wives nursed cups of wine. The four of them approached William "Slainte" Cahir and Eoghain said to him holding up their tankards. "I am Cahir O'Dochartaigh, King of Erin Nova, and this is my wife Brigid." "Dia dhuit" Brigid said with a curtsy "And I am Prince Eoghain O'Dochartaigh, warchief of Erin Nova, this is my wife Princess Sionainn." "Dia is muire dhuit" Sionainn said with a curtsy. "Whom do you represent?" Cahir asked

(ooc: Sorry, hadn't actually turned up yet...)

David and Abigail made their way through the starship towards the meeting with G.E.M. Flanked by a couple of guards, each one wore what could be considered 'casual' clothes. David had his rather heavy leather jacket on, holster on the inside, and basic synthsuit. Of course, he couldn't forget that 'fronteer' style cowboy hat too! Abigail, in contrast, had a long white labcoat on, with basic environment suit underneath, lending her a slightly bulkeir appearance than was normal. Each bore the "F.E.U" logo.

The ship was big, so it took a little time to get to the meeting and, when they did, found that it was already underway. A man called Stargazer managed a quick introduction before everything got underway. Both david and Abigail tried to look as relaxed as possable as they took their places. David checked through the notes he was handed. "I agree. I have already earmarked the best site for my team to set down. It holds no strategic or military value, just good farmland"

Will held his ground when the whole group of Irish rolled up to him. Actually, he didn't have much choice considering he was leaning up against the bar when they did.
"Ah. Pleased to meet ya." He said, quickly clinking his shot glass against Eoghain's tankard. "Here's mud in yer eye! I'm Will and I'm the team leader for Team Three."

There was a brief pause from the Irish deligation as the man he'd introduced himself to earlier, spoke up in agreement to William's comments on landing sites. He raised his glass back to him as well before tipping the shot glass up, draining it's contents.

The Banquet:

Andrew Grant raises his hands and called for attention. He introduced himself and his wife Gail, Edward Grant and his wife Lena and Robert Grant.

"I would like to welcome you to this evening of food and drink and I sincerly hope of comaradship. We have all embarked on a remarkable journey and the colonization of a new planet. There is much that waits on the surface for us. I hope that it will be prosperity for us all. They tell me dinner is ready and so Ladies and Gentleman, we will proceed into the dinning room.

With that, the large double doors swing open revealing the banquet hall beyond. Men and women waring red jumpsuits approached the waiting guests and led their charges to their places around the table.

Dinner went smoothly and small talk passed among the guests. While the table was being cleared I rose and again addressed the group. I explained to them what GEM stood for and why we had joined this journey. A family and friends and business associates that wanted to work for ourselves This was the perfect vechile for us to try our luck.

I then answered the question on the lottery from our point of view. If we all picked different sites there was no problem, but what hppens if two groups want the same area. How do you decide who gets what at that point. The order of decent will probably be decided on the areas that are choosen. I now ask who would like to speak next.

Erin Nova

"I would speak," Cahir said rising. "Greetings to all. I wish to give my sincerest wishes for a safe landing to all, and a hope to avoid territorial issues. I suggest if two groups pick the same landing spot, That they settle it in a duel between the strongest fighters they have. If nothing else it would provide entertainment for the other factions." Cahir laughed "I offer a toast to successful colonization of the planet. May the Lord keep the wolves in the hills and the women in our beds!"

William gave an incredulous look over to Lazlo, who only shrugged.

"I hardly think that a duel would be the best way to settle a dispute. Let us see if there is a conflict first, then I say, first come, first serve." he commented.

"Still, dinner sounds fine by me and I'm hungry!"

THE BANQUET CONTINUES

Andrew Grant sits back and listens to the banter that is going on around the room, paying particular attention towards Cahir. The Man, The King, The Husband and The Father, A Man to be reconed with, admired, feared, ruthless and cunning. There may be something there, something more than the leader of his people. I made a mental note to myself about having a private meeting with this man, if it could be arranged.

"The next course is now being serverd," I announced and continued on "A roast Pig from Erin Nova, it's King Cahir O'Dochartaigh and his people. We thank you for your contribution of the roast pig and the two kegs of stout." I nod towards Cahir, "Thank you again your majesty, and to the rest of your party."

Applauding, I sit back down as the members of my group join in, as well as the rest of the staff. I raise my tankered of stout to Cahir and take a long drink. I smile towards the man and I seem to see a slight smile cross his lips. The staff has arrived with the next course and Robert on my left leans in and wispers in my ear, "Nice, Andrew, very nice !"
