Fwd: Emails- WHY?

Huh? If that means not seeing complex issues in simplistic terms, you're right.
Oh, I don't know.. I've always considered myself pretty liberal, and I think I see things in fairly simple terms, most of the time.

Hey, Sweet,

I would like to make three points. Messages like this happen to be one of my pet peeves and I frankly don't care if they are from conservatives, liberals or anarchists. THIS IS AN INTERNET LEGEND/HOAX!!!

///Mine too:)

1) The story was originally posted in early 2002 about cans of Dr. Pepper that had a patriotic message using ONLY "One Nation . . . Indivisible".

////I had heard about this.

To read a complete debunking of the original email campaign go to snopes.com and search on Pepsi Under God
http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/outrage/drpepper.asp

2) If you KNOW the person that sends stuff like this, check it out on Snopes and then send them the link back. You may do more to stop the forwarding, expecially if you point out what idiots they are. My method is to send it back to them individually once. If they are stupid enough to keep sending them to me, then I do a reply to all and am usually fairly sarcastic.

/////I have sent links and excerpts from snopes, break the chain, and other sites. I have sent thoughtful replies urging folks to think through what they send, and not fwd propaganda, lies, hoaxes and hate. Every effort has been ignored. I'm at the point now, where I just want to send them crazy FWDs, from the other side so they will really get the picture that I am a GODLESS LIBERAL!!! Then they will ether stop talking to me all together (I'll be 'dixie chicked') Or they will redouble there efforts in an attempt to convert me.

////Colly, if I give you my addy will you FWD the liberal nonsence?

3) You may be right about the predominance of conservative views versus liberal, but I never really kept track. I know a couple of hoaxes/legends that seemed to have a life of their own involved the Moonies and Entenman's bakery and Proctor & Gamble and Devil worship. It's interesting to note that the original campaign was directed to getting ministers to proclaim a boycott of Dr. Pepper. So maybe it's the religious cyber community that is the most to blame <G>

If you take anything away from it, is that it is NASTY to spread 'facts' that are not, in fact, facts. But then, being a campaign season, that's an entirely too silly idea to expect to be adopted by any side ;)

///I don't think the political climate has anything to do with it in my case, I've been getting them from the same people for as long as I've had a computer. Its just that there good ol fashion Toby Keith loving patriotic country folk who know that the only real way to solve a problem is with a boot in your ass! :eek:

Oh. Thanks. I always thought the Liberals were the official "Don't Know" party who had no definite opinions on anything.

"Simple" and "simplistic" are not synonymous.

Do you have definite opinions on things? From your posts, I believe you do. Therefore, by snooper's reasoning, you're not liberal.
;)

I'm definitely not liberal. I'm a communist. I vote for the Left Party. I used to vote for the Green Party, but that was before they became too right wing.

Those emails are an example of how fearful people are. And how stupid because so many people believe them. I usually rip into anyone who sends them to me and tell them they are fucking jerk-offs for falling for that shit. I keep getting the one that says that the Q'uran makes a prediction about 9-11 and the US kicking the ass of a rogue Arab nation. It is completely fabricated, but everyone passes it on without even checking on it. Anything to justify what they already feel.

Mr. James,

I have never heard that definition before, but what about someone you are having a debate with, who will go to ridiculous lengths NOT to see an alternate views.

We had been arguing all day, she by her facts, I by mine. Finally, I got online and found the news story (CNN, I believe) and invited her to read it.

“Not on YOUR computer! How do I know it’s true?”

Like, I can affect what's on a large commercial site from my dinky briefcase!

Golly! I wish I could!

I would start eBanking. :D

"Mr. James?" That's so formal. It makes me feel as if my father's standing behind me. ;)

My definition was just a response to snooper's "I always thought the Liberals were the official 'Don't Know' party who had no definite opinions on anything." That's a common right-wing slam against anyone who actually dares to think about complicated issues.

There are too many people like your friend, who simply refuse to engage in critical thinking.

Sometimes there will be such a hot-button issue with someone that they will refuse to read or listen to even a minor disageeement. :( I have gotten into trouble with people on this forum because they will make a statement and I will express a small disagreement on some minor point, sometimes saying it might not always be so, and they will act like I have insulted them personally, impugned their integrity and disagreed with everything they stand for, sometimes even putting me on ignore. :mad:

There isn't much point discussing with them either, even if it is possible.:confused:

I know just what you are talking about.

Some people are very set in their ways. they are not interested in opposing viewpoints. It is obvious to them they are right. the end.

I think we all have a capacity to be like that about certain things.
