Full Moon

Does the full moon / new moon phenomenon affect where you live? It seems like people are crazier than usual for a short time. You ask yourself OMG WHY? and then you realise it is a full moon.

I've noticed the same thing.

My biggest problem is my sleep patterns always seem to get disrupted around the full moon.

vella's theory of full moon phenomenon is that we humans are 98% water and the moon affects the gravitational pull on earth thus making out bodies out of whack for the time where the pull is the greatest....

ok before you pshaw me, i realise that this is only conjecture and tons of scientist pshaw the whole idea as well, but when you work in an ER or a labor and delivery floor and the full moon coincides with influx of patients, youd be saying the same thing yourself

When there's a full moon, doesn't that mean that the earth is pretty much between the sun and the moon? That means the tidal effect of the moon is lessened because it's opposed by the pull of the sun.

I'd always heard that the full-moon/emergency-room connection was a classic 'fallacy of attention'. People look for greater activity in emergency rooms during the full moon and so they think they see them. A statistical breakdwon of emergency room visits and birth patterns shows no real connection to the phase of the moon.

I hate to be a wet blanket, because I love the full moon too, and would like to think that it affects behavior, but as far as I know it's a myth. It may stir the soul but I don't think it has much effect on the body.

I know the nursing homes and hospital around here schedule extra orderlies on nights of the full moon as well as the psych center keeping an MD on 24 hours to prescribe medications.

I worked with the public in retail for years and would always notice an increase in shoplifting, customer complaints, employee altercations and just plain bizarre human behavior during the full moon. I don't think I was looking more closely than usual, as I always seemed to realize after the fact that there was a full moon.
