Fugly Girls

I have a thing for less traditionally attractive women, especially if they don't wear makeup, are a little flat chested or feet aren't perfect, just anything where their experience has made them warmer, more friendly somehow. Some of the deepest crushes of my life have been over girl geeks and tomboys who never quite fit in.

Unfortunately, I was so enamored with them that I put them on a pedestal, I thought if I loved them so much that everyone did, so I failed to tell them how I felt. I found out years later that some of them liked me, but it was too late, they were already married with children. Some of the actresses I have a crush on:

Maggie Gyllenhaal
Ginnifer Goodwin
Hilary Swank
Carey Mulligan
Joan Cusack
Anjelica Huston
Jena Malone <- not sure she belongs here, most beautiful woman I've ever seen

Found these contenders on web lists:

Kirsten Dunst
Cate Blanchett
Felicity Huffman
Toni Collette
Kathy Griffin

Anyone else feel this way? Care to share your favorite fugly celebrity or butterface? Guys are ok too, but there are just so many of them hah.

Mike

I have always heard the term "fugly" used in a derogatory way.....because fugly is beyond ugly....it's fuckin' ugly.

I wouldn't consider any of the females mentioned above in that way.

Less than attractive...as you put it...is no where close to fugly. One's imperfections doesn't make them fugly either.

I would hope than any female you were minutely attracted to would not be considered "fugly" in your eyes. Sorry...that's just wrong.

While I do see your point and agree with it (I've even written a few stories on the topic), none of the women you've listed strike me as less than beautiful.

Yeah.... What she said...

Shit, just when I was starting to feel okay with how I look, I find out that Maggie Gyllenhaal, Ginnifer Goodwin, Kirsten Dunst, and Cate Blanchett are fugly.

I am so fucking screwed. :(

Perhaps Mike what you meant to say was unconventional beauty? (although I perhaps would disagree it sounds better than fugly) Just throwing you a life line. :)

I hear ya...

I guess I have been walking around with FUGLY stamped on my forehead for years.

WTF?!?

Yeah if they are fugly.. Then I need to go bury my head under a rock.

EG I guess I need that stamp too.

Oh sure... if those women are fugly girls then I'm right with you. I love 'em too.

Only-- what do I call the REAL women that I share love and sex with, who REALLY are not as pretty as all of those celebs?

Cause they must be beyond fugly then.

I had the exact same thought. Right down to the rolling my eyes and heavy sigh. Figured I mights as well not worry about the diet anymore cause I am dog ugly I guess.

yeppers....Fugly...Is Fucking U.G.L.Y.

I think what your getting at.... if All these broads were in a room together....Your saying the ones that get looked passed for the drop dead Hotties...

I had this 20 something girl in a college class... you would look straight past her for these other girls.... Then one day, me and another guy, saw her walking out to her car....we engaged her in small talk...after, brother from another mother and I both agreed....She has NO idea how friggin HOT SHE...

Jeeze dude, if you use the word the way YOU mean it, in conversation with a woman, and she uses the definition the whole rest of the world uses -- YOU don't get laid.

Time to think about learning the common language, dude.

I dislike that term. My own tastes are such that I prefer women who consider themselves not so attractive. Most of my crushes and or gfs have had that attitude about themselves. I realize that many women are self conscience about their looks. Which is why I turn on the charm. I am hoping the OP just didn't think before he typed. No judgement on my part b/c I don't know him personally. I find those women who are a little less than average make the best lovers.

I wouldn't call any of the women you listed as fugly (I wouldn't call any woman fugly, for that matter), but I do have a little theory about this:

I think that one of the things that makes us attracted to certain faces is that they fit most of our conventions about what is really beautiful, but they have one or two features that's a little off, and often it's so subtle that you can't exactly put a finger on it. The face thus becomes more interesting to look at. With Maggie Gyllenhaal, for example, it's something about her cheekbones, and the corners of her lips. It makes her face fascinating to watch when she smiles, when she pouts. On Angelica Houston, it's a nose just a little too large, which gives her this incredible proud, strong presence.

Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine is a woman who definitely hits me that way. Her jaw is just a little too wide, her nose is too large, and yet she's a stunning beauty because of (and not in spite of) those features.
