I served with Ozzies in Vietnam. All were drunks and obscene. Today theyre all drunks and PC. They wouldn't say ASS if they hadda tongue wrapped around one. I blame inbreeding with Kiwis.

Australia, per head of population takes more 'legal' refugees than any other country except one (Switzerland).

The 'illegal' Boat people are trying to jump the queue and by so doing, limit the number of people who come in through the proper channels. The navy patrols the Northern coast to keep the boats from landing and tows them back to Indonesia sometimes. The Tampa affair a few years back was influential when a Norwegian tanker 'Tampa' picked up 438 refugees and tried to land them in Oz. The Government told them to take 'em to Norway.

More influential still was when a boatload sank and some 300 odd people drowned. There was no Oz vessel handy to save them. That slowed the influx of illegals sharply.

Oz is not a nation of progressives it's a mixture of all shades of opinion.

Considering that 27% of the entire population was either born overseas or are the children of migrants, how the hell is that bigotry?

Incidentally Michael we have taken some 500,000 legal migrants from China in the last 25 years.

Both the USA and OZ have very generous migration and refugee programmes but both nations will not accept people arriving illegally (Invariably economic migrants - not refugees) The deal Trump has been objecting to is not a one way deal. It envisages that the US take some of ours and we'll take some of theirs. The idea is that if they end up 10,000 miles from where they actually wanted to be then they will go home. A majority of the so called refugees currently housed off shore in Manus Island, Papua New Guinea are in a very unpleasant spot. two thirds to three quarters elect to go home after a month or two if they can. Not nice but it works.

Both the USA and OZ have a similar intractable problem. They are attractive destinations but attract far too many people. The solutions are harsh but necessary, and not helped by the liberal commentariat yelling 'bigot.' - but not helping out at all.

Ask yourself for example, How many refugees has say Japan or China rehoused in the last 50 years?
