I give up.
I don't normally have insomnia, but this has been going on for a few days now. Waking up at between 1 and 3am and then struggling to get back to sleep.
What's your fail-safe method?
I need hints.... because nothing I've tried so far seems to work.

Read the most boring or hopelessly technical book in your house. Electrical theory. Quantum mechanics. Microbiology. Something you have little interest in and cannot possibly fathom.

I actually took a sleeper before going to sleep earlier. Got maybe 3 hrs out of it.
Not feeling hung over or anything, just 'bing!' eyes wide open :(

Yeah - I did that for the first hour.
Got real sleepy, turned the light off, and 'BING!' - eyes wide open again :(

It was a Tess Gerritson novel, about as boring as you can possibly get.

Tried.
Failed.
Doing housework now.

I do that - housework - when I can't sleep. The worst you can do is watch tv or a computer screen or phone. Something about the light keeps you awake by stimulating your brain and you become less sleepy. I read it somewhere.

Melatonin. Alcohol. Masturbation.

The thing about alcohol, though, is that too much of it fucks up your sleep quality, so I'm talking just a glass of wine or a beer.

Melatonin is natural, though if you're on other sleep aids, check to see if it's kosher to take one or two a few hours after the others. It may not be good. It works for some, not for others... in my case, it only helps if I cut stimulation along with it (in other words, don't take it and watch TV or be on the computer... take it and lay down with the lights out).

Masturbation just relieves some tension and... wait... why the hell do I even need to explain? It's not like you've never! :D

I went back to bed ariund 4, fell asleep a little after that, and have just got up again.
So, added an extra 2 3/4 hrs.
It'll have to do.

Ask someone to read to you or tell you their philosophy of life... I usually find I get so into the rhythm of their voice that I fall asleep on them.
Although since the break I seem to randomly just fall asleep.

This woman has more problems than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest.:D

Apart from fucked-up sleep, I have no problems atm!
Far from it actually!
My kidlet has also been given a 'provisional' all-clear, so the chemo and surgery have done their thing :D (pending review in 6 months, of course.)

There's a cool App I use on my phone called Lightning Bug. Its like a noise machine. It has different sounds that you can pick. It's free. It's an android program. It has rain, the ocean, a monastery, city setting and I think woods I forget. There are free extra sound settings to download as well as some to buy. It has a timer you can set so it automatically turns off.

When I moved from Philadelphia to North Carolina I couldn't sleep at all. I found this program and it works for me. It has a city setting. I put on rain, cars honking and the police siren and I sleep like a baby. I wish it also had the elevated train and random helicopters, then it would be perfect. I know it sounds crazy but I'm so accustomed to city sounds that birds and crickets and frogs keep me awake.

So I suggest trying Lightning Bug you might love it like I do.

Go running at least three hours before you go to bed. Or if you don't like running, anything which is going to really beat you down physically.

I don't know why it works, but it does. Probably something to do with all kinds of hormones telling you to hole up while you recover.

Running sounds wonderful!
And I'd do it.... trully I would...... if it weren't for the fact that I live in a place with absolutely no flat ground anywhere and if it stops raining for a night or two....
