FU!

Funny. Reminds me of the (arguably) longest laugh in Broadway history recorded on, I believe, the opening night of "The Odd Couple". I'm paraphrasing from memory here...

OSCAR: You leave me little notes all over the house! I told you a million times I hate little notes all over the house! Yesterday I found a note on my pillow, "We're out of milk, F.U." It took me half an hour to figure out that "F.U." was Felix Unger.

Matthau and Art Carney.

Neil Simon had Matthau in mind for Oscar when he was writing the play. He HAD to have Matthau as Oscar, and sent him the play.

Matthau said he'd do it, but only if he could play Felix, saying he wanted to grow. Simon said, "Grow in someone else's play, in my play you're Oscar Madison."

Dix - you stopped the quote RIGHT BEFORE my favorite part.

"It's not your fault, Felix. It's a rotten combination. "

MP ;)

LOL That's right. But the famous laugh came right after "...Felix Unger". No one timed it, but apparently it went on for at least a solid three minutes.

By the way, did you know that Simon used the name Felix Unger by mistake? He had already used the name in an earlier play (Come Blow Your Horn, I think), and just forgot.

Back to the subject of fuck...

My friend is a linguistics major, and he was very surprised to learn that, although in other languages there are words that you can insert into other words and still retain the meaning, in the English, there is only one word as such.

You guessed it. Fuck. As in abso-fucking-lutely.

What are they teaching us in college nowadays?
