How do you clear a frozen screen on windows 10, in previous systems, you could power down, then power up and you would be offered a safe start up, move into control panel and then system restore. This does not occur on 10, with the screen frozen you have no access to anything, any answers?

First of all...some questions?

1. Did you upgrade to Windows 10?

2. or did you buy a machine with Windows 10 on it?

If 1 then oops

If 2 then take it back and get your money back

Yeah the only way to do a restart to safe mode is from within window 10...pretty stupid if you ask me.

Other questions I want to ask...

If you upgraded, why?

I guess that's the only question.

Good luck with your problem.

Try letting the battery die down so it shuts off, then plug it in a turn it on and take it from there.

Just take the battery out - 2 seconds

"Use F8 or Shift + F8 (doesn't work when using UEFI BIOS & SSDs)"

but

"Another little bit barbarian way on PC with not the fastest SSD: you push the Reset button during startup (as soon as the windows logo shows up), and next time you are offered for troubleshooting. Than you make your way to safe mode for example."

and

F8 is disabled by default.
To enable open elevated cmd.
bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy
Reboot
Tadaa! F8 is back.
bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy standard to disable it again.

there are more suggestions from the comments area in the link I provided above.

If your PC was freezing before - and now you have the dreaded Win10 freezing issues - after checking all your drivers (go to device manufacturers websites - some of them are updating on a daily basis and have new drivers not being picked up by Device Manager / Check for new drivers) - you should consider a clean install.

I would suggest a clean install of the OS you came from with the latest drivers - get set up exactly how you like things to be then try the free Win10 again (still may need to check drivers) - if you have to wind back again at least you know that there was a clean install that will run without freezing.

There are a whole lot of reasons why freezing happens but with Win 10 probably mismatched drivers.

Just type "Windows 10" freezing into google and you will see people screaming all around the world.

I am now back with a clean install of Win7 running better now than for years. I wasted a week trying to chase down my Win10 freezing problems.

There are laptops that the battery doesn't come out without taking the damn thing apart.

Why I suggested what I did. My laptop is like that, but an older one or bigger one may have a removable battery.

Welcome to the world of Win 10.

It's full of pain. Get used to it.
