Almanac minus president's name
Associated Press
The World Almanac, which usually published the name of the president-elect, went to press this week without being able to name the winner of the 2000 race.
The book of facts, produced in the Bergen County town of Mahwah, has never before published an edition that didn't include the new president-elect's name, publisher Ken Parks said.
Next to the year 2000 in a list of all U.S. presidents elected, the Almanac noted: "As of the time the World Almanac went to press, no candidate had a clear majority in the Electorial College."
Usually, the new edition includes a biography of the president-elect. This edition included biographies of both Gore and Bush.
The publisher said he went along with Thursday's publishing date because he didn't know when the race would be settled. "Perhaps this will be a collector's edition," he said.
