Mikki Corvin and her best friend Alex Santos had gotten the chance of a lifetime when they got the jobs at Marvel Studios. Alex was an artist that they were using for set design and to collaborate on the art for the movie posters that fans could purchase online. Mikki was mainly working on the designing for the costumes and wardrobe for the characters that were coming up. She had even done some of the clothing that was worn by Miss Paltrow while she was playing Pepper in the Iron Man film. They had moved across the country to come here and Mikki was still shy around people while Alex was everybody’s best bud. He had had some hard times a while back when he finally came out to his parents. His father had a hard time accepting it and Alex had spent a lot of time with her.
They bonded even more over the experience. There was nothing that the other couldn’t say to the other. ‘No judgment’ was there number one rule for their friendship. Alex had exposed her to a lot of different things, including ballroom dancing. ‘A guy who can move gets all the attention’ he had said. Initially she didn’t like it until they started the Latin dances. Mikki had excelled in that part of the class so well that the teacher had tried to convince her to compete with Alex in a competition but she was too shy for that.
In the studio, she had bit of a reputation for being a shy but sweet girl that was more dependable than most people. Mikki had even been invited to a function being hosted by Joss Whedon but she turned it down, allowing one of her co-workers to attend. They had been there almost 6 months now and they had a routine every night as they were leaving the office. They ate something in the canteen every other night before leaving. Alex loved the old fashioned juke box in the corner that played all kinds of music.
Often enough he had plugged in a quarter and they danced for a little while before leaving to go home to the apartment that shared. People had mistaken their close friendship for more a few times but once Alex started to date Marco, the rumors had calmed down. Their relation was more brother/sister than romantic. Mikki had trouble in that area because of her reserved nature. Alex did know about a certain crush that she had been nursing since she had gotten here. He had teased her about often enough especially when he had visited their department. He had overlooked her just most of the men in her life but that left her the daydreams she could have about him.
Alex did what he usually did that night and hopped over to the juke box but this time he picked this hot Latin number that had Mikki itching to get up. “Come on, beetle bug.” The nickname was a tad odd but she still liked it. She hiked her skirt a little bit so her legs could move better, let down her dark hair, leaving her coat and glasses on the table. The beat thrummed through her blood, guiding the movements of her body in a way that spoke of her love for the music. Once they got started, it could be quite the show. Once or twice they had been caught by a few security guards once they heard the applause.
As the beat kicked up, she smiled and her pretty face almost shined. Those long legs glided over the floor of the canteen like they were on ice. Neither noticed that someone had walked in and had gotten a shock to see what looked like professional dancers in the studio canteen this late at night. Mikki and Alex laughed once the music stopped. “Well that surely worked off that piece of cheesecake from lunch.”
