So, in September I got my gallbladder out and thought everything would be copacetic...and it wasn't. I've had 3 months of intermittent vomiting, diarrhea, reflux, nausea...when I went to my post-op and asked if this was normal I was basically told hell no.
The last two weeks I've been intermittently vomiting bile. On the 18th I had yet another ultrasound and an endoscopy. They've taken biopsies and I won't know until the 7th whether they found anything. In the meantime I have to take this vile powder that is usually used to control cholesterol. In my case it's to bind the bile. They want me to take it 4 times a day. I'm up to twice, and can get it up to three times, but with my meds I have no idea how to fit in the fourth one.
I've joined Jenny Craig and lost three pounds this week so I know it's not my diet. If it keeps up I guess I may have to start an elimination diet.
I am NOT a happy camper.

Ugh. That sucks big time. I'm really sorry and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Hope you get to feeling better very soon. :rose:

ew that's craptacular. I'm sure they've already recommended it to you, but if they haven't, you might want to K.O. all the fat you can from your diet.

blagh. that sounds uber sucky >.<

Thanks. I'm just so frustrated.

That's why I joined Jenny Craig - to reduce my fat intake and my weight. It costs about $900 a month, truth be told, but I need someone to make most of the food for me - I just don't have the time. Plus I'm a lot more likely to stick to it if I'm paying that much for it.

I was all upset about not being able to invest in my RRSP and then I realised if I don't take care of my weight now there may not be a need for extra RSP funds. I've been lucky so far but this weight has got to COME OFF. I've had it for just about 15 years and it's time for it to go. I remember being thin and I want to be thin again. Of course my definition of thin has changed a tad.

I'm hoping that losing weight will also make what ever problem this is go away too. Worst case scenario, my sleep doctor said you absolutely cannot gain any more weight or you will develop sleep apnea so at least I'm avoiding that.

you could always turn into a rabbit ^_^ carrots and parsley require very little preparation :p

mmmm parsley.

Has anyone mentioned "brd" to you? Bile Reflux Disease.

My mom has a former co-worker with it. She's hired my mom to work for the nonprofit she's creating around the disease. It's not very well known yet. But basiclly it's like acid reflux but the bile comes up instead of acid.

If you like I can ask her for some links and info.

Hope you feel better soon.

So, what's the deal? Did you or did you not need your gallbladder removed? Or has its removal just brought up other problems that were there all along?

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through this. We trust professionals to know what they're doing. I hope the Jenny Craig continues to be a success.

I just looked it up and I think you've got it. I also think it was caused by the gallbladder removal. I have had acid reflux in the past but have never, ever refluxed bile. And it happened twice in the past week and a half.

I don't know if I needed my gallbladder removed. There were two gallstones, one 1.5 cm and one 1 cm, and these were assumed to be causing my nausea and other issues. The fact that the symptoms worsened after my surgery seems to say no. Lots of people are walking around with gallstones right now and no symptoms.
So either:
1) The gallstones were not causing the pain and nausea and the gallbladder removal exacerbated what was wrong (possibly this bile reflux thing)
2) The gallstones were causing the pain and nausea but removing my gallbladder caused another problem, probably this bile reflux thing.
Or some mixture of the two.
I've lost 3.2 pounds the first week. If I lose weight steadily hopefully I won't have to keep taking this powder. Vile, vile powder.
