A true friend is someone who thinks that you are a good egg even though he knows that you are slightly cracked."
~ Bernard Meltzer

"What is a friend? I will tell you. It is a person with whom you dare to be yourself. Your soul can be naked with him. He seems to ask of you to put on nothing, only to be what you are. He does not want you to be better or worse. When you are with him, you feel as a prisoner feels who has been declared innocent. You do not have to be on your guard. You can say what you think, so long as it is genuinely you. He understands those contradictions in your nature that lead others to misjudge you. With him you breathe freely. You can avow your little vanities and envies and hates and vicious sparks, your meannesses and absurdities and, in opening them up to him, they are lost, dissolved on the white ocean of his loyality. He understands. You do not have to be careful. You can abuse him, neglect him, tolerate him. Best of all, you can keep still with him. It makes no matter. He likes you. He is like fire that purges to the bone. He understands. You can weep with him, sin with him, laugh with him, pray with him. Through it all - and underneath - he sees, knows and loves you.
A friend? What is a friend?
Just one, I repeat, with whom you dare to be yourself."
~ C. Raymond Beran ~

ok, so some of you probably groaned when you saw my name on the thread and some probably haven't even opened it, I am not posting this for any other reason than to thank every person who has supported me over a difficult time, to PM you all individually may take some time and I wanted to show just how much your kindness meant to me.

Cracked egg or not hun I am always here for ya - you know that and I think the boards do too now...

~waving~ hello, ladies!

Unconditional friendship and love is a wondorous thing indeed.

Even when you completely gross yourself out, you look up and see a silly grin holding back a laugh ... and open arms to comfort you.

Tips on Being a Friend

Treat your friends the way you want to be treated.
Keep secrets that are told to you.
Pay attention when your friend is talking.
Keep your promises.
Share things with your friend.
Tell your friend the truth.
Stick up for your friend.
Take turns.

I found this on the net... amongst other bits that I will post here too

'The only reward of virtue is virtue;

the only way to have a friend is to be one.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Screen Friends
by Miasartiff

My husband has finally gone to work
My children have finished their play
they've gone to bed their stories read
Now it's my time of day.

I've had one of those days
you know what I mean
so I sit back and relax
and turn on my screen.

I'll talk to all my friends
who know just what to say
to make my stresses go
and my troubles fade away.

My friends you're always there for me
whenever I feel blue
and though we've never met before
I know our friendships true.

And although we haven't been friends for long
in this short time it seems
we shared so many things already
our hopes, our fears, our dreams.

We come from different walks of life
but we share a common bond
and it's time to say that of all of you
I've grown so very fond.

So thank you friends for being there
whenever I've needed you
I know you're always there for me
and you know I'm there for you.

"Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow.
Don't walk behind me, I may not lead.
Walk beside me and be my friend."
- Albert Camus

SW.. I've sat and watched the humiliation burn bright and now the embers glowing in the grate, I just wanted to say that you have conducted yourself throughout with dignity and grace and now, to publically thank your friends in such an elloquent manner does indeed show courage and spirit.

'stay' is the most beautiful word in a friendship dictionary.

"Do not use a hatchet to remove a fly from your friend's forehead."

- Chinese Proverb

It must have been cold there in my shadow,
to never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that's your way.
You always walked a step behind.

So I was the one with all the glory,
while you were the one with all the strain.
A beautiful face without a name for so long.
A beautiful smile to hide the pain.

Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.
I would be nothing without you.

Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I wish I could be.
I could fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

Did I ever tell you you're my hero?
You're everything, everything I wish I could be.
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

Oh, the wind beneath my wings.
You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings.
Fly, fly, fly away. You let me fly so high.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.

Fly, fly, fly high against the sky,
so high I almost touch the sky.
Thank you, thank you,
thank God for you, the wind beneath my wings.

This song always makes me think of Friendship...

How about you SW <wicked grin>

...and don't use a teaspoon to clear up after your pet elephant, life is too short.

You have more friends on here than you could possibly imagine, most of whom are 'cracked' around the edges, not least me! The only difference is the glue that holds us together. Friendship can be a very strong glue....

Too true Slinky - if you have friends like that you don't need therapists.

Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn't see
For parting my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me

You pick me up when I fall down
You ring the bell before they count me out
If I was drowning you would part the sea
And risk your own life to rescue me

(part of Bon Jovi's Thank you for loving me)

WHY GOD MADE LITTLE BOYS...

God made a world out of his dreams
Of wondrous mountains, oceans and streams,
Prairies and plains and wooded land,
Then paused and thought,
"I need someone to stand

On top of the mountains, to conquer the seas,
Explore the plains and climb the trees
Somone to start out small and grow,
Sturdy, strong like a tree and so...

He created boys, full of spirit and fun,
With dirty faces, banged up chins
With courageous hearts and boyish grins."
When He had completed the task He'd begun
He secretly said "That's a job well done."
