I was thinking of an idea where the MC is a "respected" wizard who gets voluntold to rehabilitate a woman who had committed a magic crime (not maliciously, she just burned an attacker to death). He is given a year to do this and while that happens they slowly grow to like each other, connecting through his strange job and his work to make her a respectable witch. But while she is learning with him, his past slowly is revealed to him on why he's respected, and that's because when he was her age he was incredibly powerful due to being under the tutoring of a malicious fairy queen, who left him for dead after he refused to give up his humanity. At some point though they have to pass through the land of fairies where his queen rules and he sacrifices himself for her. She is then recruited by the benevolent fairy queen that is the opposition of the malicious fairy queen forcing them to be enemies, but neither of them want to be enemies to each other. That sound interesting?
