Emma kept ringing out her hands, pacing up and her living room. The little redhead had a tendency to worry herself to death but this time, Audrey had no idea why she was upset. “Will you stop going back and forth like a damn Hoover! What is wrong, Em?” Those soft brown eyes seemed so troubled that it made her realize that this was important. Em sat down on the couch across from Audrey. “Do you remember that guy I met from California? Chris?” Audrey nodded. Chris was a computer programmer from Southern California that met Emma on a site for World of Warcraft, something they both liked to play during off time. Emma had never met anyone quite like him and they hit it off right away. They mainly communicated via chat or voice call on Skype
“What’s the problem? Is he being an asshole again?” Emma shook her head. “That’s not the problem. In all this time, I never got a look at his face, at least not a good one. He did send one picture but it was hard make it out because of the darkness. Well I finally did get a good one and got one hell of a shock.” Audrey arched a brow. “He does not look like ay programmer I have ever met and I work for Gateway. He’s coming here for the convention that will be in town.” Audrey smirked. Maybe this time, her best friend finally would get up the nerve to touch a real man.
Emma had always been very shy around men but with Chris, it was different. She let her guard down with him tremendously. Audrey eyed her. “You’re attracted to him.” The younger woman turned beet red and pulled out her ipad and showed Audrey the picture. “Damn. You were right about him not looking like a programmer. The two of you have been talking for months. Try to remember this is the same ass from Skype.”
Two weeks later…
Emma had kept thinking on what Audrey had said. Just because she was attracted Chris doesn’t mean that she would treat him any differently. She would push it aside and try to keep the relationship on strictly friendly terms.
The convention was set to start the next day. Most of the attendees would be showing up today. Neither she nor Chris had talked about meeting but he had talked about hacking her address to surprise her one day when she least expected it. It was her day off and Emma spent a good part of it helping out her family. Now that she had two minutes to herself, Emma was going to enjoy a plat of jambalaya her mother sent her.
The fork wasn’t even to her mouth when someone started knocking like the building was on fire. Emma was slightly annoyed but she was at going to try to be friendly. The kitchen, where she had been, was all the way in the back of the apartment. Emma had sidestep her puppy, Charlie to get to the door. Who she saw on the other end surprised her. “Hi.” It was all that would come out for now.
