almost all the great haiku was/ is spontaneous.

One of the intriguing things about haiku is how to express the " suchness" of a moment in 13 syllables.

A game among warriors or monks was to have haiku contests to pass the time where one would play off the previous either using the ending line of the previous poem or continuing the subject matter.

That's the literal translation but it's
semantics
the japanese have many Gods
They'd say divine because it was " heaven sent" to use an american phrase, not god sent or they'd name the god.

Yeah, that's the popular translation. Kami or Kamui is/are God/gods, so divine maybe appropriate.
