i was just wondering if anyone knew how this site came up with one of my stories...and some others i know to be stories or literotica writers. thanks to anyone who can answer my question.
I think this is a job for Laurel.
But it could be that the authors have given permission to have their stories posted on that site. But if they haven't....well be ready for a shitstorm.
Just checked that site real quick, there is a blurb about lit. "Some of these stories are being used in conjunction with Literotica.com. Don't forget to bookmark this page!"
I wonder if they bothered to ask Laurel.
What bothers me is that there is not information on the owners of the site. Just an email address. How trashy.
yes, we are all credited with our stories. i was just very surprised when someone started writing me about my stories and then said they had never heard of Literotica. im just looking to see how they got my story. im not really pissed, just curious.
allowing a website to post your work is taking the chance that someone else will rip it off.. it just goes along the same line as Napster and other such topics
if your curious as to the 'hows' its probally quite as simple as they copied & pasted from here to their site... i doubt Laurel would give anyone permission to use your work without approaching the author first.
even knowing the risks... it would still piss me off and if any of mine were there i would request they take them off just because they weren't ethical enough to ask me first.
That site is actually an experiment Manu was working on a while back. I'm surprised, but happy, that some of you found us through it. If you remember, a while back in one of the newsletters we talked about the trouble we've had getting Literotica listed high in search engines. We (foolishly) thought that perhaps if we registered a domain with words that people actually search for, then maybe it would be easier to get listed. The idea was to submit the site to search engines and then, once the hits started pouring in, send everyone off to Literotica.
Unfortunately, the hits never started pouring in. Like Literotica, the site ended up getting crappy listings in just about every search engine. Manu gave up on the experiment several months ago and the site has been pretty much untouched since. If it turns out that it is now being found by people doing searches, then perhaps it was a success after all and it is time to change the links back to Literotica. I'll mention it to Manu, and I think he can look at the server and tell how many people are finding the site.
The most interesting thing to me about all this is how impossible search engines make it to get good listings, even if your site is totally relevant to what people are looking for. If you're looking for "erotic fiction" on a search engine, you're likely to find a hundred sites with nothing but banners and pop-up consoles instead of a single adult story. I just don't get it.
