Prince Harry has sued a British newspaper following their ‘ruthless’ treatment of Duchess Meghan

I know they (Harry and Meghan) are public figures and some will say it comes with the territory but is it a case of freedom of speech and the tabloids can say what they want or is it bullying and they (the tabloids)can or should be held responsible for their words and actions?

In the USA, the suit would go nowhere but, in the UK, the prince will probably prevail.

Their citizens aren't allowed free speech, I don't see why their tabloids should be any better protected.

Unless UK is now embracing that sort of elitism....which wouldn't be shocking.

You must be referring to UK's recent anti-hate speech regulations.
It's indeed a tricky balance between stopping harassment, and enabling witchhunts.
And you and others (myself included) are wary of such laws.

But I think we need to take into account the differences between more traditional British societies (UK, NZ and partly Australia) and US and maybe Canada.

What applies to the first might not apply to the second.
I'm starting to feel that, despite the common language, they have more differences than common ground.

the uk has one of the most ridiculously strict libel laws on the planet. have for years. even telling the cold, hard truth is against the rules if they decide that you told the truth to harm someone's reputation.

it's been that way for years now. they even had to clamp down on people from other countries filing lawsuits in the uk to take advantage.

Canada is one of the worst offenders.

But I know what you're saying, the common ground is vanishing quickly.
