I found a cool and kind of addicting site: Free Rice

http://www.freerice.com/banners/125_125_banner_b.jpg

You take vocabulary tests and for every answer you get correct, 20 grains of rice is donated to help end world hunger through the United Nations. Sponsors on the website pay for the rice. I got about 480 grains in perhaps 5 minutes of playing? It goes fast.

I checked it out on Snopes to make sure it was legit and it appears to be so.

Here is an example....

scullion means:
1. kitchen servant
2. originality
3. sulfur
4. brandy

Dang, sometimes I feel like a scullion that is for sure.

Have fun! Um.... if this is not poetry-ish enough for the forum, them um.... how about write a poem with a word you just learned on Free Rice or maybe write a poem about Free Rice? Maybe a protest song about Freeing the Rice?

What they need to do with that site is figure out some way to make it competitive, so that you can play other people for vocabulary dominance.

What is a good score though?.I got up to 46 and then got one or two wrong then slipped back again then improved but I still couldn't break 46. It's a bit addictive.:)

It's a very cool site. Much harder than the usual vocabulary tests. I got to level 46 and donated 1,000 grains of rice.

bangtail means:
leisure
skull
brow
racehorse

Racehorse? Who knew?

And I have freed the rice a few times. Usually on my kitchen floor.

Thanks for pointing this out, Ms Swirls. Nifty little idea.

i played and got 1880 grains before i got tired of playin'. it was fun. thanks for the link annaswirls
