So I was sitting at home, minding my own business, when I noticed that my copy of MSN messenger service had somehow updated itself, and there was a new icon at the top named call. So I clicked on it, and it turns out that you can make FREE phone calls! I tried it out with a friend in the US, and it really is pretty good. It has about a 3 second delay, and my computer is a little slow so it hung up 2 times in about 30 minutes, but it's free, so what do you want? :) The quality is quite reasonable too, and it will only get better. Oh, and it dials their phone too, so they don't need a computer.

Strange thing is, I could call the US for free, but not Australia. (I guess because it's an American based service) To do that, I'd have needed to deposit a little money, but it was going to charge me 4.9c for the entire call, so it's still pretty cheap. But I think you Americans could use it free locally. And Forigners can call the US for free too. :)

Try it!

I just found one thing that sucks about a Mac. :( No free phone for me.

MADDOG, did you have this problem?

I tried it too, a couple of weeks ago, but I kept getting feedback. It sounded like everything was echoing, because the microphone picks up the voice coming from the speakers. I thought I would try headphones, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Any other suggestions?

Oh, I almost forgot. You will need a Mic to use it, but I improvised. I am using my headphones. :) I discovered a few years ago that one side of some sets of headphones can double as a mic when it is put into a mic socket (such as in your sound card), so that's what I'm using for the time being.

The other persons voice comes out over your speakers, which is like having hands free. :) Or, you can listen to it over another set of headphones plugged into the speaker socket if you want more privacy.

And the best thing I found, is that you can play a CD down the line with pretty good quality so you can "put them on hold" whenever you feel like it. :)

Well, I just found this out today, so I'm no expert yet. But I DID have that problem for a bit, but then it seemed to clear up. I think it was because I used headphones instead of speakers. You could also try turning down the speakers to reduce feedback (Provided you can still hear the other person). But that's about all I can think of to help you. Other than to keep the speakers and the mic as far apart as possible. :)
