I was curious. In college, I was a GDI. Just never got into the greek scene. Florida State was pretty laid back in the early 80s when I was there and nobody really gave a shit (whereas one semester, I transferred to LSU in BR because my brother moved to Tallahassee and was driving my ass fucking nuts and there the attitude seem so devisive, like if you weren't greek, you weren't shit- I lasted one semester there, my brother joined the Army and I wanted to get back to Florida).

What frat or sorority were you in? Or were you GDI like me?

At FSU I hated the Pikes with a vengance (I lived across Jefferson Street from the house and was pleased when they got booted off campus for raping some chick- they even squirted toothpaste up her ass- cavity creeps, indeed). The coolest frat was the Theta Chi's I thought.

If you did not go to college, what is your perception of the whole greek/gdi thing?

I was a greek and it was great, positive and I made some of the best friendships of my adult life through my affiliation with my fraternity.

Although the system is different in Canada than it is in the states, less alcohol for one thing.

silly me, I went to college for an education, not for the keg parties and Frats!

I had many greek friends, but when asked to pledge would simply state that I had enough family and didn't need sisters.

In truth, I didn't enjoy female company all too much in college and the sorority scene turned my stomach.

Of course, again, I had many friends in the scene....just couldn't get into it myself.

I am in a Fraternity. I still hang around with my brothers and little sisters from that very Fraternity. Key word ~ I am in a Fraternity. I did indeed graduate, however I am a TKE for life. I graduated over a decade ago and still take part in many Fraternity functions when I can. I think, given the right direction, Fraternities can be the greatest thing. Also on the converse without much supervision and guidance, they can be the downfall. It is all in the leadership and ideals.

As a matter of fact, I was just at my Alma Mat-what-the-fuck-eva this past weekend and had a blast with the current brothers. There were the tall tales and the urban legends that they just had to know if they were true or not. Some of them had only heard of me, but never met me. Some had met me but never spent much time with me. So it was fun indeed sharing my experiences with them and listening to their experiences on campus and off.

I keep in contact with as many of them as possible as it is one of the best friendships and bonds (as well as one heckuva network for job hunting). Greek life can be good and is good, but everything is only what you make of it.

I have alot of my college friends who were GDI and there is/was nothing wrong with that. It is all about choices.

GDI maybe

I went to college after the service. There was no way that I was going to put up with hazing from a bunch of snot nosed kids.

Sooooooooo, I looked around, found a bunch of Viet Nam vets like myself. And we formed our own club. Wrote up the constitution, applied for and got a school charter. The club is still in existance today.

The Greeks hated us. The girls really did like the 'mature men' better. :D

I was a GDMFMFI - that's God damned mother fucking Machine fighting independent. It's a distinction that Alabama grads understand quite well.

GDI

I did go thru rush, and nearly pledged one, but decided I didn't want to be ruled by a bunch of other girls. I'm glad I went GDI.

I'm trying to remember that little rhyme about GDI....anyone??

95% of all the crimes, unsafe sex, and drunkenness I committed were done while I was active in a fraternity.

Was it fun? Fuckin A.

Would I do it again if I had a chance to live my life over? No way.

Okay, I thought I was smart, I went to coleleg, I remember a good portion of it,
but what the blazes is GDI?
Damn I feel stupid now.

And I did not rush Greek, had no interest in it. My first year of college I was at Syracuse, Greek heaven. And living next to frat row cured me of any latent wish I had to be Greek.
Nothing like waking up at 3 a.m. your first weekend at college with a dumpster fire burning merrily under your window as guys dancing partially nakes and drunk off their skinny asses around it yelling some nonsense.
My next college did not have a large Greek community, and that suited me just fine.

God Damn Independent

I guess I'd be GDI, unless you count business fraternities. No, huh?

Only because my snippy tongue needs some exercise......GEG......how can Syracuse have been Greek Heaven........when the fine Cali campus of U.S.C. is the epitome of "Fraternity and Sorority life?" Before I continue.......taking a peek......ummmmmm my 'bottom" is not skinny .......though I do confess to perhaps multiple nights of "nonsense"........

Actually I do consider two of my S.A.E brothers to be among my closest friends.........

Smiles.......bowing on my exit.........

Fuck.

When i was at school?

Two groups.

cool and uncool.

Pretty much everything you typed went right over my sweet little head.

I almost joined a frat here, decided to good ol GDI. Maybe if I was in frat I wouldn't spend so much time on lit. But I have a good time going to the parties with my frat buddies, and not having to go through the frat stuff.

If I did it all over again I think I would join a frat the second time around.

Much to the dismay of my family....(terribly strong legacy there) I didn't have the time for any greek letter organizations, it was eaten up by making cheesy videos for class, and putting on dumb shows for the school's cable access channel. In the long run, I don't think running around like some pleb dressed like a clown would have done anything to further my career. Especially in a field run by A/V club alumni.

I was wicked close to joining Delta Sigma Theta Sorority IIIIIIIIncorporated (oooo ooop!)...but opted out.

It's a "traditionally black sorority" and while they're not square-bears, drinking and huge parties just don't happen.

So I kept it GDI, but have many friends in the Greek world...with a z-phiiiiii!! skee-wee!!! and all the barkin' you need.

God, I'm such a newbie at this. Didn't know what GDI was, but that's the only way for me.

Mmmmm I can pay for friends who will be jerks to me!

I don't even like the ones I know anyways.

I joined Sigma Phi Epsilon when I went to school down in Florida. It was supposed to be a non hazing frat because of issues in the past, but no frickin way. I did some things that still haunt me to this day. I can not eat spaghetti even 10 years later. I made a lot of great friends and still have some contact with them now. But if I had to do it again, no way would I join up. Way too much drinking. But living through it made me a stronger person.

Rho Chi ... those are the greek letters that make up the familiar Rx that's associated with pharmacy

Rho Chi is an honor fraternity...we didn't do kegs or anything...actually, we didn't do anything at all that i can remember

Pledged and joined

First, I pledged Phi Mu Alpha, the "gentlemen's" musical fraternity.
Made national status, but not good enough for the chapter.

Then, I switched schools and pledged Alpha Psi Omega, a national dramatics fraternity. I am a member of Theta Nu cast as of 4-9.

Touche!

Well my dear, there is apparently a big difference between the frats in the cold, harsh, east coast schools and the mild, warm Cali schools.
My fault was in choosing to stay in the east coast.
