Well folks I am sorry to say I will be off the board for a few days, maybe weeks even-I sound like eyeore. My small and beloved child was leaping lemur-like from his bed onto the floor;when suddenly in his words,"My arm went all floopy." Medically speaking that means he landed on a bent wrist and fractured both his ulna and radius.
After 7.5 grueling hours in our local ER we returned home early Friday morning,he is in discomfort and lugging around a 5 pound cast. His arm should heal fine but he needs a great deal of Mommy time and aid. So I will be at his beck and call for the next few weeks and wanted you all to know that I was just taking a little time off.
Have fun, and wish us luck-this throws a serious glitch into our Samhain plans-I had promised he could be a pirate and now he'll be in a cast...perhaps I'll just make that his hook arm-or attach a faux parrot to it...Ah well, I best away as soon I shall need to tend to him...
See you soon!!

Earthgoddess, I broke my non-dominant wrist when I was in fourth grade. My niece broke hers when she was about the same age. I think that you might be surprised at how quickly he adapts (depending on his age of course). Any way, goodluck and good healing.

Major bummer

Not only for your poor little boy, but us as well, since we won't have your great posts to read.
Perhaps his cast, with a little cosmetic modification, could resemble a wooden arm with a hook hand as well. What could be more pirate than that?

Sign that cast for the Wizard...........Sounds like a pretty dam good reason for a break to me.......Take good care of him......:D

Hi Earthgoddess, I am sorry your little guy had an accident. My son broke his arm the summer he was appearing in "Bye, Bye Birdie." The orthopedic surgeon put a red cast on him & the director added a few lines to explain the break. I think the hook on the end of the arm would be great. I have a thing for pirates & I know he will make a great one. Kids do adapt amazingling fast & newspaper bags make great cast covers when they take a bath or shower. Take care.

Been there about two months back. My 11 year old son broke his radius and ulna in a compressive fracture this summer. Both bones were displaced in two different directions. The orthopedic surgeon gave him a choice - get knocked out and reset the bones under anesthesia and spend 6 hours in the hospital or suck it up for 30 seconds and he would reset it and cast it with him awake. My son chose the latter and I was treated to the most godawful crackling and popping I ever heard as his bones were mashed back together. It sounded like two german shepherds fighting over chicken bones. But the cast worked and it has been off for two weeks and he is back to playing soccer and seems to be fine.

So, with much sympathy and a nodding head, I wish you good luck.

Oh, I'm sorry that the little guy has learned about gravity the hard way . . .

My daughter broke the growth plate at the bottom of her tibia when she was 12. They didn't want to immobilize the ankle, because it would stiffen and she needed to keep it flexible, but she was on crutches for six weeks.

I really think the hook is a great idea. Another idea is The Mummy.

A blessed Mabon to you and yours, as well.

give him a cuddle ....

.. and I hope you are gonna check your e-mail now and then nevertheless....

and I think the hook-arm or parrot sounds a great idea *s*

OMG! Just came across this post right now and I nearly cried! EG, kiss your little sweetie for me and Manu... :)

AAArrgghhh!!! I stoppped in for five minutes and in that time my son has gotten his head stuck in his shirt-ah me, thank you all for your sweet thoughts...this entire week has been a disaster and we got to the orthopedic clinic at Johns Hopkins hospital on friday to see if the bones are knitting...Thanks all I will keep you updated!

Glad you could pop by for a minute. I hope things are working out for him, never know what kids are going to do next. Sending a hug to you & your little guy.
