my area of texas has been pounded by torrential rains since saturday. i've received over 12 1/2" here and parts of san antonio have received 16-19" in the same time period. this area is one of texas' top tourist attractions. we have 6 or 7 major rivers that attract millions of tubers, kyakers and such each year and the holidays are the busiest.

the most popular river is the guadelupe which flows out of canyon lake at a normal rate of 100 to 200 cubic feet per second. this morning the lake is going to spill over the spillway/dam at an estimated rate of 50,000 cubic feet per second. this will fill the river to a level 30 feet above normal. no partyin' there. the river that runs through my development is 20 feet higher than normal and all of the formal celebrations here have been cancelled with the possible exception of the vfw rodeo and dance. them cowboys love the mud.:D

this may sound like a rant. far from it. what it is is an attempt to thank all of you that have started patriotic threads this morning. the birthday of our nation is a special day but for me it has always been a day of introspection and a day of thanks for having been born here and for the freedoms that we enjoy. . i was proud to serve my country in the 60's and would do it again if they could figure out how i could help. i might cook a burger and quaff a couple of brews this evening but sharing your tributes and memories is all the celebration i really need.

thanks

}{ugs to you unclej...I was wondering how all of you were doing down there as I listened to the news this morning.

Hope you dry out soon! :rose:

I will host a toast and save some special words and fireworks for our brothers and sisters down in Texas...

Will also play Stevie Ray...

thanks to both of you. hugs and toasts are alway welcome. i hope i didn't sound like i was feeling sorry for myself. there are a lot of people down here that have lost their homes and their businesses and all i've lost is a couple of days worth of work.

by the way SIN, my ex and her sister went to high school with stevie ray and jimmy vaughn up in dallas. when i found that out i ask her about what kind of guys they were and she kinda shrugged and said, "jerks mostly. they really were'nt very popular. they didn't hang out with the popular kids. all they wanted to do was play that music of theirs." well, duh.

LOL

Hendrix prefered to sleep with his guitar over his woman...

well damn, i like my takemine but not nearly that much.:D

I prefer the curves of a nice, shiny French Horn myself...

If you are cancelling the 4th, is the 5th?

What am I supposed to date the checks I write today?

I am soooo confused! :D

And would love a bit of that rain.

Banks are closed. They will all be recorded as the fifth...

Now what do you think about a man and his sax...

I love a sax!

I even played for 15 years.

I also played guitar and find men and their musical instruments ever so appealing/

;)

I was raised on Pete Fountain, Pete Best, Polkas, etc.

I play a wimpy clarinet of all things...

So that's where the water went...

We've got the opposite problem here in Arizona..... The trees out in the forrest are dryer then the lumber in most peoples houses. The rivers are streams.... the lakes are gone and the reservoirs are at less then 20-30%. We're surrounded by national forest and it's shut down. We got our first rain of the summer yesterday, but, all it did was settle some of the duat that's been flying around. Things is kinda scarry right now.

Great, now SRV is going through my head. Which is actually a good thing... :D. It used to be "Blame Canada" from the South Park movie.

He died about 30 miles from where I live :(

shoot, clarinet and sax kick ass. i play the guitar, banjo and flute on stage but i'm leaning the clarinet as we speak. similar fingering to the flute and i'm doin' fine on the lower register but i can make glass break when i try to go to the upper octaves.

mink, the irony here is that we have been in a severe drought for a long time here. this rain actually started last friday evening and on thursday the city of san antonio, which gets it's water from an underground aquifer had declared an emergency and put the city on a water rationing program. the aquifer is now up over 20 feet. that represents millions and millions of gallons.

don't tell me that god doesn't have a sense of humor.

I am going to eat Indian food at a friends, but a huge hamburger with a big glass of iced tea would be good too.

after all the rain it is clear and hot here in austin.....perfect for the barbeque & keg we're gonna have '-)

It's been sprinkling here.. just made it wet enough to safely light off the illegal fireworks I just went and purchased :D

Happy 4th Unclej

Hope you guys dry out soon. :)
