Forum viewing

They, Lit, keep changing the default forum viewing mode.

It first changed to the new way, where the AV is above and the title and post is below. I preferred the old way. Lit changed back to this way after a couple of weeks. However, lots of people are using long Sigs or AV titles, or whatever, which make viewing very hard in this mode. You have to scroll right and left on EVERY line to read EVERY post in EVERY forum where someone has a long thing in their post.

So, Lit changed to the new way again and I learned to like it because I can read post from people like quoll, who has a long Sig, but has good stuff to say, and it doesn't mess up the rest of the thread.

Now, they've changed back to the OLD, retro, legacy display method again.
I tried to find a skin that would let me view posts without scrolling right and left. Most will let me do this. HOWEVER, when I open up a picture that is posted, instead of it being posted in a new window, it is posted in the SAME window.
So, when I click BACK, it doesn't go back to where I was, but goes to the bottom of the thread.
There is no option to change this behaviour.

Wierd Harold, you seem to have an "in" with the management. Could you, would you contact them and get them to fix this annoying problem, please?

Manu, if you happen to read this, can you fix it, or at least explain what the hell is going on to us, ok?

It seems that bluesaint3 - liquid might work for me. At least I can view posts without scrolling AND view pics in a different window. AND, I return to the same post where I left off, not the bottom. Maybe this should be the default?

Magic, I think you are right about bluesaint3- liquid, thought I had fixed the sig problem, as there are others that make me scroll too. Anyway I`ll fix it permanently now, it is annoying too many people.

I'm a newcomer to Lit, but know the Vbulletin software very well. I can't comment on the way it was before because I wasn't here, but if you don't want to have to scroll the sigs at all, you can go to your personal User page, then click on the left for your Options settings. There is a box on that page that you can click to prevent the signatures from displaying. That should resolve the additional scrolling issue.

If you're talking about left-to-right scrolling, as opposed to up and down, many things can cause that problem, and they're usually very easy to spot. If a member enters a long "location" in their profile, that will cause a scroll. Likewise, a very long url link, or a long series of characters, like @)($*%^*&$& that goes on and on without break. There are many Lit members who cause this type of scrolling. They are probably not aware that they're causing it to happen. I've found that on other sites I moderate that use this software, once it's brought to the member's attention, they're always happy to be part of the solution and stop the scrolling by changing their profiles or sig lines a bit.

I'm doing pretty well with Imagize-Liquid and opening attachments in a new tab or window. However, on occasion when I'm still logged in and haven't cleared anything in my browser, Lit will flip to a different skin. I can deal with that, but I'd like to know if anyone has ideas on why it's happening.

Good info, Sue, and welcome to Lit.
Yes, I figured out this problem a couple of years ago and have PM'd several people about the problem and asked them to change it. All have, except one guy a couple of months ago who insisted it was MY problem, not his, and didn't change it. I don't see him around anymore, so maybe the kid got bored creating long names in his big SIG box.
Thanks for the info about turning off the SIGs, but I sometimes like to see them. It is rare that I would not want to see a sig, or have a guy who is messing up the whole thread with his tag or sig. When that happens, I just put them on "Ignore", and can still see their posts when I want to.

I'll try Imagize-liquid sometime, but this one seems OK for now. It seems friendly enough. I'm the type to like to stay with whatever is working and don't want to take the time to try out 20 different skins. I feel the skins should be transparent, and not get in the way of the real meat of the discussions.
It seems that Manu has been changing the default back and forth to please different requests, I assume. I saw several threads in the GB where people were expressing their love or hate of the new system he installed a few months ago. Maybe you were logged on one of those times when he made a change?
