Hi there. I inherited an old computer that has two separate hard drives, the C with windows installed and another storage drive partitioned into two (D and E).

What I want to do is take that second drive and format it to wipe everything off and either get rid of it or use it for storage.

I've deleted the partitions and now I have to create a new partition (of the size of the entire drive), but I'm not sure whether to make it primary or extended. I thought primary was for the operating system so I was going to make it extended. But then I read something that says extended is only if you intend to partition the drive further into logical drives, which I don't want.

I just want to make sure everything's wiped off it and either get rid of it and use it for storage.

Thanks very much.

Generally for a single partion you make a primary partition even if it is not the 'active' bootable one in the system

technically you could go extended and then make a single logical drive of it..
but you don;t need to.
