That nonsense above is a spacing character in HTML and is approximately worth 1 space. Put several in a row and you have an indent. A space (no more than one) between each character makes double the space.
It doesn't seem to be working in the forum, but it will work when you post a poem. You can preview your work beforehand and it will tell you how much space you privided in your poem/text
