Hello, I was wondering if anybody had an easy format for posting your stories.

I always end up spending time manually spacing my story in the little box when I go to post.

If there is a quick or automatic setting I would love to know about it.

Thank you.

I end all paragraphs and pieces of dialogue by a carriage return and a second one to create the gap before the next.

I find when copied and pasted that the spacing remains when submitted. I might have to make a couple of corrections on preview, but almost all of my spacing transfers successfully.

Configure your word-processor or text editor for "flat text" files with two carriage returns/paragraph breaks between paragraphs.

In MSWord, turn on display of "invisible characters" or "non-printing characters" -- the terminology seems to change with every version of MSWord -- and you'll see what looks like a backwards 'P' with two verticals. That marks your paragraph breaks -- look for ones that shouldn't be there and make sure there are two after each paragraph. Any tabs, indents, white space between paragraphs etc will NOT translate to Lit's format.

The save your work as "plain text" or just Copy & Paste into the submission form.

Depends on what software you use to initially write you stories.

Word...

Format your paragraphs as follows...

Open Office variant...

This is the paragraph format dialog from LibreOffice the 64bit version of Open Office.

I use word mostly and I just type as if I was posting in a thread here. Carriage return after each paragraph. And one in between. Then I just copy and paste into the submission box.

I write with the free Jarte multitab editor, basically Notepad on steroids. I cut text from it, paste it into the submission window, check spacing in the preview, and fix as needed.

And now I avoid any fancy formatting because about half of LIT readers use the Android app which kills all HTML tags. I write in vanilla text. It was good enough for Homer!

Yes, what Ogg says - I write in raw .txt files, two returns at the end of every para - drops straight into the Lit upload box, no problems at all. Never write italics or bold, no need to.

That's what I do as well. I also keep my paragraphs down to two or three normal sized sentences. I use twelve point Times New Roman and keep my paragraphs short.

I used to match, as close as I could, the size and font Lit uses and bring the margins in to the 'Lit' Width. It wasn't exact but I got close a few times. But when I printed it out to do a final proof read I felt like I was wasting paper LOL.

That's probably because Lit's default formatting is optimized for reading on-screen and nor for printing hard-copy.

Why? Don't worry about what Lit does. You copy should be whatever makes it easy for you to read. Lit. will take care of what Lit. needs. Use my paragraph parameters and put the extra return between paragraphs and when you copy and paste it will be just fine.
