OOC: I am looking for a strong writer who can take the role of Mary’s betrothed. It is a classic case of mistaken identity where Bella is assumed to be Lady Mary Annabelle Proudmore. Bella loses her memory and being in an unfamiliar setting where no-one knows her, she has nothing that can trigger a familiar response either. The only thing that she latches onto when he says her name is that the name Bella feels right.

I have been deliberately vague about the betrothed leaving allot of room for character creation. Please PM me if you are interested. Feel free to read some of my other posts to get a feel for my style of writing. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

IC:
Lady Mary Annabelle Proudmore was throwing a very unladylike tantrum as she was unceremoniously shoved into a carriage with all nine of her pieces of luggage being securely strapped to the roof of the carriage. Her blonde hair was curling wildly around her face and her emerald green eyes were staring daggers into her father’s back.

She was being shipped off to be married to a man that she had never met in her life before. Arranged marriages were the bane of nobility, and Isabelle hated whoever came up with the ghastly idea in the first place. All she knew about her betrothed was that he was very successful, unforgiving and at times ruthless in his methods. He would certainly not entertain the whims of a spoilt rich brat.

Isabella Mason barely blinked an eye at Mary’s tantrum. As her chaperone and lady in waiting, she was all too familiar with her spoilt and petty outbursts that were always aimed at getting her way. It worked most of the time, as both her parents were weak-minded fools who allowed it. Bella felt sorry for her poor husband-to-be.

Bella patiently waited for Mary to settle in a flurry of white silk and lace, before she handed her single suitcase to the driver to tie to the roof before she climbed in. She was dressed in a plain black dress, her long raven black hair securely tied in a bun on the back of her head, making her pale complexion seem more severe. She had the most amazing azure blue eyes.

They made their way to the train station and was packed into their compartment, all other passengers staring in awe at the overwhelming amount of luggage, and of course Mary’s ongoing tantrum. Bella paid little attention and made herself at home in a corner. It was going to be a long journey that would take the most of the day.

Halfway to their destination, Mary suddenly sprang up with a beautiful smile spreading on her lips as they reached the next station. Out on the platform, John was standing waiting for her. Mary unceremoniously informed Bella that she was eloping with John to save herself from being married to 'that tyrant’. Bella was absolutely shocked. She knew that Mary was dallying in forbidden pleasures. She never thought that Mary would give up everything for him.

“No Mary! You can not do this!” Bella tried to reason with her, her eyes still shocked at the revelation.
“I’m in love Bella,” Mary said, her green eyes lighting up every time she looked at John. “We will make a fresh start, it won’t be as comfortable but at least I’ll be happy, with a man who truly loves me,” Mary told Bella. She had made up her mind, and there was nothing that Bella could do or say to change it.
“And what about your betrothed?” Bella asked icily. “You are prepared to drag his name through a scandal for your own benefit?”
“I am sure he wants this betrothal as much as I do!” Mary retorted sarcastically. “You are more than capable of explaining everything to him,” Mary informed Bella.
“Oh no, you don’t!” Bella hissed, as her eyes sparked blue flames. The countless times she had to clean up the mess behind Mary, flashing in her mind.

Nine gruelling hours later, Bella’s destination appeared on the horizon. She shuddered at the fury that she was bound to encounter as her tummy tied itself in a nervous knot. Bella was staring through the paned window as the train slowly came to a halt. She still had images of Mary throwing herself in John’s arms on the platform ... Bella grimaced. How on earth was she going to break this news to Mary’s betrothed? Not only was Mary about to destroy her own reputation ... but she will drag Bella’s name through the mud as well. No self-respecting family will be interested in her services after this escapade.

From what Bella could gather, Mary’s future husband was accustomed to getting what he wanted, regardless the cost. Even though Bella knew that he would probably not be too torn apart at losing a ‘betrothed’, he will be furious at being cuckolded in front of society by a brat of a girl who could only think of herself.

Bella took a shaky breath. She straightened her shoulders and lifted her chin as she stepped off the train. The lanterns lit around the station only illuminated the bare minimum and seeing as Bella was the only passenger alighting at the station, she was certain the man silhouetted at the end of the platform was here for Mary.

Bella walked to him slowly, as she rehearsed the carefully practiced line in her head one last time. Dear Sir, I am sad to inform you that Lady Mary Annabelle Proudmore has eloped. Please accept my apologies for making you wait at this late hour. It still sounded ... yet, she couldn’t think of anything better.

She was about to open her mouth to say the first word, when an ominous creek of steel drowned out the sound. Bella whirled around just in time to see a load of cargo wildly swaying as the rope holding it in place atop the hoist snapped. The heavy wooden crate came swinging across the platform completely out of control. Bella’s terrified scream was brutally interrupted when the crate made contact with her head, sending her body hurtling across the platform.

Bella lay absolutely still for the longest moment as her mind throbbed with pain. She tried to open her eyes ... blurred outlines made it into her mind as she heard voices erupt around her ... darkness ...
