ahhhhhhh......

Just wanted to say sorry for the strangeness on the board this morning. I'm still learning MySQL. Well, I don't know if I'm actually learning anything, but I am *trying* to figure out the administration stuff. If anyone reading this is a MySQL guru, drop me an email sometime so I can pick your brain!

Now back to our program...

Wow!

Wow, it's the legendary Manu! ;) I like what you and Laurel have done with the palce. (Though it'll take some time getting used to it!!!)

Hi Manu,

Great to see you posting.

And this message posted very quickly. I enjoy your site very much. Thanks for all of your efforts.

What We've Done...

Thanks for the positivity. This morning's up-and-downs are part of the fine tuning of the server to handle the new software. It's got to be done, because of the new scripts we're working on for the site. Someone with a bit more experience than me would be able to get it done a lot quicker, but they'd also want me to pay them - imagine that! ha.

It will be better soon. I know what needs to get done, I'm just trying to figure out how to do it.

Remember - the first time (setting up a MySQL server) is always special and it's something you'll remember for the rest of your life!

eVerything is working fine now.

Everything seems to be working fine now. I can post and edit without any problems.

Yippee!!

It all works! I dozed off at some point and woke to have everything workinf beautifully... Let's all give a big hand to Manu, the Sleepless Wonder!!!

(clap clap clap clap)

<bows to manu the techno wizard>
personally I don't think I could every figure out all these post scripta and computer languages..but then again that's why I don't run a site......

Here's how I do it...

My own experience with my humble little site is to just fumble around blindly until you stumble upon something that works - and then just STOP!

Hehehehe....

If that's a little to technical for anyone, just lemme know and I'll try and explain it better.

HUZZAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!

Congratulations. The cocktails are on me. Drinks all around.

rog

Oh, would you believe that - I've gone and left my wallet in my other jacket?!?!

:)

Sorry Rog, I already put a few on your tab....

Room service should be here any minute now. So sorry, I'm leaving before I get stuck with the bill. :D:D

Good to see you Mr. Simian...

Hi Manu,

We haven't formally met. So now I have the opportunity too.

Hi, :)

I just have to commend you on such a wonderful site that you both have put your heart and soul into.

I want to THANK YOU!.

Many thanks Manu!!

Just want to add my appreciation for what you and Laurel have done here. It's already great and just keeps getting better!!!

WOW! Just big, fat, wow! The new board is great! Will take some time to get used to, but it's great. If I were the sort of person to hug people, I'd hug both Laurel and Manu. What the heck, it's cyber space!

HHHUUUUUUUGGGGGGGSSS to both of you. You guys are great! (hope I did that right)

Pure Praise for The WebMaster

Yesterday was kind of rough, but I'm having no trouble today. At least, no trouble that isn't connected to my ISP . . .

Well Rog,

I went ahead and picked up that bar tab... didn't want you to have to stay in Brazil, undercover like, and have to suffer through the heat, humidity and the beautiful Brazilian women <hell, if I can't be there, then neither can you>

:D:D

Lasher ...that is exactly how I do it when I am making repairs on our various automobiles...

anybody need their brakes done????

Laurel...all that work and all ya can give the guy is a hand???? Women!!!!;)

MM....ya gonna pay mine too???

He really exists!!!

Oh my goodness. I never thought that I would see the day that Manu would post on the BB. Laurel, it's good to know that you weren't just making him up. *just teasing*
Love the new look guys, and hope to see you post more in the future Manu.

C'mere Mr. Manu! <wink, wink>

I think Manu deserves a full body massage for all his hard work and tireless persistance. I nominate myself for the job. You don't mind, do you Laurel? At least, you didn't mind when Manu and I got together at the reunion, right? ;) (It was HER chapter!) ;) Heck, if Manu's getting one, Laurel deserves one too. Anyone offering?

Great job on the site, both of you!

K

Hi YA'LL,
I'm new here but I have enjoyed it so far.
Hope to get here more often.

I admin & make use of MySQL for the website where I work.
We use PHP4 as the scripting front-end, as I see you are as well. PHP ROCKS!!! =)

Any questions, just ask, or email me

My(SQL) body massage...

Special K - only if Lasher gives me the massage. ha.

Amorphis -
Wow - happy to talk to a MySQL guru. Here's a question for you. If I start the MySQL server with safe_mysqld, will it restart itself if it goes down? My fear, as we move more of the site to PHP4/MySQL is that the MySQL server will die for some reason and it won't restart on it's own. For example, when I manually restart Apache, the MySQL server isn't starting on its own. I assume that I need to set up some sort of script to start it when Apache starts, but I'm not sure how that is done. My main concern is making sure that the MySQL server is up 100% of the time. Any suggestions or thoughts on the subject are much appreciated.

Well, I certainly don't claim to be a GURU, but where I work I pass for one (as well as EVERYTHING else computer related). I'm pretty much a newbie WRT Linux but I'll try to help =). I have a feeling that we may bore everyone else out of the thread tho :)

this HOWTO may be what you're looking for...
http://www.linuxfaq.com/HOWTO/Process-Monitor-HOWTO.html

You could also write a shell script that parses the output of a 'ps -A | grep "mysql"' and take action accordingly

you can also put your normal boot-up programs into a .rc file (goes in /etc/rc.d/ IIRC) and they will load at bootup

I assume you're running linux, what distro?

Any other Q's just ask
