N.Irish republicans allege police assaulted woman


BELFAST (Reuters) - Irish republicans said Tuesday they were sending a video to Northern Ireland's police watchdog which appears to show riot officers beating a Roman Catholic woman during weekend clashes in north Belfast.

Sinn Fein, political ally of the Irish Republican Army, said the video, which it showed at a press conference in Belfast, had been shot by a local resident as police and troops moved in to separate fighting Catholics and Protestants Saturday.

"It will also be given to the Irish government, the British government, and to America. I think people need to see what nationalists in north Belfast are going through."

Police declined to comment in detail on the incident.

Why the let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Your white haired old woman was 46. She was in the middle of a riot, not on her own being systematically beaten by a group of policemen.

Sinn Feins statement did not mention the colour of her hair or that she was 'old'.

The tape is getting a lot of play over here. She looked old to me, but it was hard to see through all the billy clubs.

I have to weigh in here and say that I think it was pretty awesome.
I saw the footage and was just blown away by it..pretty cool.

That's one of the reasons I always wanted to be a cop, you could lay these fantastic beatdowns on people.
I always wanted to do that to shoplifters, especially snotty teenagers,those motherfuckers would remember me.
