Forbidden Words in Short Description?

I've had two stories that don't make it out of the queue (and an edit, but I understand they are not a priority).

In both cases, they had a word in the title or short description that could be a red flag, specifically 'cock' and 'pussy'.

Is this a no-no? In the first case, I simply removed the word, and it went right through.

I don't recall seeing this in the submission guidelines, but maybe I missed it?

I have eight stories with "fuck" in the title and two with "orgasm", and none of those ever caused any problems.

It seemed weird that an erotica site would do that, but I've only noticed it with those two stories, and they were the only ones to have 'questionable' words in the title or short description.

The last one was last night, and this morning I expected to see the publication date, but instead, it had been 'reset' back to 1 hour, and after 6 hours it still is just sitting there. I know there are many variables surrounding publication timing, but... just seemed odd. I expect that by now, it will show the pending publication date based on past performance.

“Cock”? “Pussy”? On an erotic website? Say it ain’t so!

More seriously, though, how long of a queue time are we talking about? You seem to imply you’d expect the turnaround time to be overnight which basically never happens outside of contests.

Try waiting a week or two.

My experience has been under 6 hours, except for the two aforementioned stories.

Really? I’ve had 77 submissions published and exactly one that went online in less than 24 hours, and that was a contest entry that I submitted right at the deadline.

So what typically happens (my observation), is within about 6 hours, my story goes from the grey pending, to the orange published, and a date next to it. That date is usually 2 days from now. The story doesn't land in public until the wee hours of the morning on that date. So, typically 48 hours.

Never had this kind of turn around in 10 years of posting. 36-72 hours minimum.

As others have said, give it a couple days.

That is spectacularly unusual. Like previous posters, I've got 130 plus submissions over ten years, and 2 - 3 days is typical. Fastest ever was a 750 word thing that was 12 hours, I think, which was completely unexpected.

The length of your stories can have an impact, too. Are these last few stories longer than you usually write?

So, they do make it out of the queue?

Whatever's going on, it's clearly not about the words in the shortdesc.

The first one, well over a month ago, I ended up recalling, changing the title slightly, and resubmitting. It was accepted within a few hours and published within two days, as is my usual experience. (Yes, I know other people have other experiences, I can only go with my experience).

But yes, my original question has been answered. I'll wait and see how long this one sits. It's just unusual "for me", which is why I was asking.

For what it’s worth, in last year’s Valentines Day contest, I repeatedly tried submitting a story with “Fuck” in the title and it failed to go through every time until I submitted it with “F*ck.”

Made no sense to me, either. Special restrictions for contest stories? IDK.

You can answer questions like this by yourself within two minutes by simply doing a search of stories with the words you are concerned about in titles. I did, and I found 947 Lit stories with "pussy" in the title and 2481 Lit stories with "cock" in the title. Many of these are recent stories, indicating that they're still accepted.

Your wait time is unusually low. It usually takes my stories 2-5 days to publish following submission.

I published a story with "fuck" in the title without any problem.

The only "problem" title words, I would think, would be those that indicate content that violates Lit rules. Words like "torture," "pedo," "rape," "nymphet," "snuff," etc.

I didn't realize tobacco use was frowned upon.

Yeah, I'll show myself out.

Far be it for me to disagree with the elder stateswomen and statesmen here, but my experience has been similar to Lift's. Generally speaking, if I hit publish on a piece, it will go from pending to published in less than 24 hours. The quickest was three hours, and that happened last Sunday (before I was stupid and edited to the post and granted, this was my Valentine's Day submission). I just assumed Laurel was going through the queue and I caught her at a good time. You can see from the publication date on my stories, I was getting stuff posted back-to-back and none of those were submitted at the same time.

I've only really had issues one time, with a story that took more than 72 hours to go up, and that was one that I had hit submit on and edited after the fact and had it resubmitted. I deleted the story and reposted it fresh, and it was cleared the next day.

Never had a problem with stories getting kicked back for issues in the titles, but I've not been racy in the title or the short summary.

The majority of my stories have been approved in hours (less than 10) too. The shortest was approved in under 12 minutes, and that was longer than 10k. Typically I'll post before I go to bed and it's approved by the time I wake up.

There's no single queue where each story across the whole suite gets looked at in order, that's all we know about that, everyone has different experiences of their "normal" publishing time.

I don't think there's any rules against cock and pussy in the title or description. if so, you'd get rejected for a banned word. There is about other words, eg true or banned tags etc Which I assume you can't use in the title and description, but cock and pussy aren't banned tags.

The theory I've heard is when your timer resets like that, it's something to do with an AI review. Of course, this is speculation and nobody knows.

If your story is rejected for a banned word in the title or description, it'll tell you in the rejection.
I had a couple - I think 'baby' wasn't allowed, and possibly the other was 'dead' - though death was OK.

I checked again, and I have another "fuck" and a "cock" in other story descriptions, as well as two "deaths" in titles.

I'm not sure what this reveals, except that I'm bored with work.

2 days is normal.

I did have one at one day but it went in the day after submitting a different story so I suspect they just looked at both at the same time.

Perhaps 1 in 10 has taken 3 days and once it was 4.

I did a couple of sugar-baby tales. ‘Sugar-daddy’ worked, but ‘sugar-baby’ wouldn't in tags or the short description. I think it was something to do with under-18.
