Hannah was 23 and worked with her best friend at the local grocerie store they lived in a small town and Hannah had been with her long term boyfriend for 6 years but something was missing, he didn't seem to love her anymore but she adored him and didn't want to leave and hurt him either. Her best friend of about 6 months now cute and sexy Rob 24 was in the same situation getting married to his girlfriend of a year or so, but he didn't really love her, he stayed cause she was insecure and he didn't want to hurt her either. Background:

I grew up in this small town and because it was small I was expected to play on most of the sports teams, both school and community. I entered the U.S. Army right after graduation and spent four years with our Uncle Sam. I was and infantryman from the day I joined until I was released. I didn't pick up any trade and so when I returned to my home town I went to work in the local grocery store. I was put in charge of the fruit and vegetables dept and you know what that means. I receive, I stock and I clean. Set up and take down special displays and be available if a customer needs assistance.

A year after returning home after the the army, I met Linda Howe and we have be dating ever since. We have had a very nice sexual relationship and so she feels she would now like to get married. her mother is pushing her saying that if she doesn't get married soon she wil be an old maid "At 25". I guess I had felt secure and had agreed to the marriage with Linda. But lately it seems we have drifted apart, she has almost become another person. She is very clinging and hanging on whenever we go out and sex has be suspended I fear untill after the wedding, which is still six weeks away. She has become very jealous and is also very suspicious of everything I do.

Five months ago I met a nice girl at work, Hannah Marie. it all started with a litlle flirtation and then we began to talk little by little until we had become close friends. We confidied in each other and talked about our current problems and situations. Hannah has long brown hair that I like, Linda had gone and cut her's very short, and the deepest green eyes that I have ever seen. Day by day I was becoming more attracted to this lovely green eyed woman.

IC .... Monday Morning. 6:00 AM ....

I was into work early monday morning, six am. The store had a large delivery of fruit and I had to be there to receive it and to help unload it too. I had picked up two cups of coffee and two cinnamon buns. I had mentioned to Hannah that I had to come into work early and maybe she would like to come down and wait with me and have coffee. There was a table and chairs off to the side for the employees to sit. I was sitting there with one cup of coffee and trying to stay awake.

Hannah came to work early usually but her shift didn't start until 10:00 am that morning, but Robert had asked her to hang with him before he got started. Hannah got in her car and drove off after taking a shower and dressing in her uniform a white tight button down top and tight black pants, pulling her long hair up, Hannah was unsure of herself at times, even though she was cute and sweet. She knew maybe meeting Robert was a bad idea considering Linda was very controlling and jelous and if he got caught even partly talking to her all hell might break loose, but Hannah loved being around Robert. She pulled up and smiled noticing he had his head rested against the table, so she got out and looked at him, ''Rob!'' She yelled in his ear.

Your shout into my ear had me bolt into an upright position. I turned and saw your smiling face.

"Good Morning Hannah, You trying to scare me to death? Shouting like that in my ear." I gave a short laugh and asked you to sit. "I hope you like coffee, I forgot to ask you if you did or not. There is also a cinnamon bun for you too." I smiled at you as I stood. I don't know why, but you always seem to make me feel a little self concious when you are near. You look good as usual in our bosses idea of a uniform for the ladies. but on you it looked good.

"I glad that you came down this morning. I need to talk with someone, you. You're the one I need to talk with. Yesterday was a bummer. I didn't hang with Linda but went out to my folks place and just sat. I wished you could have been there with me." I take a sip of my coffee and a bite out of my cinnamon bun. "Things are really getting lousy and i don't know what to do."

I smile my sweet shy smile at you as you look back into my eyes, god those eyes of yours I think to myself.. part of me wished that I was single or that you weren't getting married I think to myself.

''Sorry, thought you were sleeping.'' She said giggling to herself as she looked at him kindly. ''Coffee your a god.'' She said sitting down ontop of the table in her usually posistion. ''Thank-you.'' She said looking at him kindly.

Did she hear right had he said he wished she was there with him.. yes he did.. and thats when she did the unthinkable. ''You can call.'' She whispered before writing her number down and handing it to him. ''We just have to be careful, not that theres anything to hide were just friends, but Linda's a little to jelous, and Steve might get jelos also.'' She said smiling. ''How come you weren't with Linda?'' She asked softly before taking his hand quickly, Linda had friends that worked at the store and kept a close eye on the two, but it was early. ''I am always here you know that.'' She whispered softly.

"I wanted to do one thing and Linda wanted to do another. Between linda and her mother forcing all these wedding arrangements down my throat, I just walked out and went out to my folk's old place. You know my parents died a few years back and I don't have any brothers or sisters, really no family at all. So it comes down to me against the world as in Lind and her family."

"Gee, thanks for the number", as I instaled it right into my cell phone memory. "I call you the next time something comes up." My hand felt good in yours, maybe it wasn't just me. Hannah could like me a whole lot more then I realize.

"You must have heard that I have decided to fix up the old place and live there. Linda is raising the roof over that even. She wants to live he in town close to her mother. So I am going out there on the weekends to work. I'll most like will need some help Sunday." Just as that was said, a large tractor trailer pulled around the far end of the building and backed up to the loading dock. "Ohhh Well, Back to work. Sit and relax, I'll have this done quickly."

Hannah knew the feeling she had been with Steve for 6 years now at least Linda did want to marry him, all Steve ever went for was his job and his friends, and it got old often. She took a deep breath and listenened intenetly. ''I understand, I have never seen the place, but you talk of it often.. try talking to Linda.'' Thinking of him mentioning her name bothered her, but then again she had no rights to Rob and him no rights to her.. still jelousy remained. Hannah knew Lindas mom she used to work at the store as well, but when Robert started she decided to leave, conflict of interest or something.

He seemed annoyed that she gave him her number.. ''Its not just for when something comes up Rob.. its just well, your a good friend.. and hell we both need someone to talk to sometimes.'' She said softly and smiled, it was the first time she had ever really touched him personal wise anyway, usually it was just him pushing her or her pushing him rather playfully. She ached for Rob's touch hell lately she dreamed of him but it wasn't right cause she loved Steve and he loved Linda, and they both had no intentions of leaving even if she had some deep feelings hidden away.. he did make her laugh, he was goofy like her serious when wanted, and hardworking.

''I don't understand Linda, here she is with a great guy that would do anything for her, and she doesn't want anything you want.. don't get me wrong I have no problems with her but she is to much with her mother.. and to much with her insecurities.'' She said and looked at him more serious. ''Sorry I have no right.'' She replied as he stood ready to work. ''Its okay I start at ten anyway.'' She said smiling.

I looked at my watch and it was only six thirty. I acknowledged the driver and checked his bill of lading and I opened the large receiving door and drove the electric forklift to the back of the trailer. I checked the first pallet and then moved it inside. I repeated this several times until we had unloaded all six of the pallets. I quickly made a recount and then signed for the shipment. I closed the receiving door and returened to you, it was only seven o'clock.

"See I told you it wouldn't take me to long, only a half an hour. Now where were we when we were interrupted. Oh yea ! I am going out to work on the house this coming weekend and if your free, why don't you come on out and visit and see the place." I paused looking at you and give you a smile.

"Hannah, I hope we were good friends, I always considered you as a friend. But lately I have started to think of you in a much different light. Let me know if you have any other feelings towards me. I would like to know because there is going to be major changes."

Hannah didn't mind waiting for Rob to return, she had made him wait on breaks before as well.. if only people knew there conversations.. oh well noone knew and things were okay, she told herself, she was sipping on her coffee when he returned to her table.

I smile as you walk up to me. ''You are a hardworker thats why.'' She said smiling brightly. ''I don't know if thats a good idea, not that I don't want to but people might see or find out.'' She whispered lightly looking around the store opened at 8 for customers but for managers and stock it opened at 6. ''And trust me I want to.'' She said softly.

''Rob your a amazing guy and we are to peas in a pod, hell everyone sees that... but I love Steve and you do love Linda, I can't say how I feel... but lets just say I care more than I want to or should.'' She said softly and looked away.

I looked at you for several minutes and took another drink of coffee. "Well I guess that answers a lot of things then. Just good friends, you are still in love with Steve so friends it will have to be. So what did you do this weekend, do anything special?" I was grasping at thin straws now, not knowing what I beleived or even wanted.

"You say two peas in a pod or even PB & J. Right now I am so mixed up and I don't know what I want to do. Tonight I am going to postpone the wedding and to put it on hold for a little while. It's just to much for me to handle between Linda and her mother." I look around and take your hand in mine, "Can I call you tonight and meet me?"

She looked at him more confused Rob was always a complex man, just as she was a complex woman.. she wasn't sure what she wanted she knew that her feelings probably ran a little to deep for him but she didn't want anyone to get hurt Linda was far to insecure.. and Steve was well Steve a good man but to for his job not enough for her.. and Linda well Linda treated Rob good but to controlling and to non communicating. ''Rob I just don't want anyone to get hurt.'' She admitted.

''I am not sure you should do that.'' She said even though its what she had hoped for although she had no right to. ''I mean Linda is important to you.'' Maybe she was just scared of what might become with the two of them he knew as well as she that there flirtation was more intense lately. ''You can call anytime, if I don't answer Steves around..'' She said softly.

"Hannah, when you have more then one person involved, someone always gets hurt. That's just the way with it all. When I postpone the wedding tonight, one of two things is going to happen. Linda is going to realize she has to change and will admit it or I get tossed out on my ear. I just know it going to be the getting tossed. That's just how I feel." I breathed a little easier having explained to you what was going to happen.

"It's getting late and I better get to work on that receiving. They will probably want it out on the floor by days end. I'm taking my lunch at one thirty to day. Isn't that your break time too." You look a little troubled by what I said, but if everything happens as I think it will. Tonight I may have good news for Hannah if she can get out to meet me. I look around and I see no one and so I kiss your cheeek. "That's for being such a good friend, see you inside. Bye for now. Did I tell you that you looked just scrumptious to day, even if it's your work uniform." I laughed and walked inside.

''I know I just don't like being the reason someone gets hurt is all.'' She whispered lightly as she looked at him and smiled... god how she wanted him.. but it was wrong.. she truly did love Steve, and deny it as he was he loved Linda as well. She took a deep breath and watched him. ''I understand about postponing its just well Linda, its mostly her mom.'' She said gently as she watched him, how many times had she wished the wedding wasn't happening that Rob was the only man she had ever thought of leaving Steve for but this couldn't happen it was so wrong.

''Yeah break right.'' She mumbled her mind spinning with what he just said not realizing he was talking about work.. ''Theres no set breaks, but I am sure Connie will let me go then.'' She said kindly and smiled.. it was now 9 am and she was going to go in and get situated. He kissed her on her cheek something that hadn't happened yet, she had kissed him on his before.. damn these feelings.

Time just seemed to drag today. Receiving the large order and putting it all away. Then restocking the dept and taking down last weeks specials. Even though I was busy, time just dragged. Then it was time for lunch and I went out back to the tables. I stopped by the drink machines and picked up two sodas.

I walked out the back door and you were already sitting at the furthest table alone. I smiled as I walked up to you. "Glad to see you could make it", as I handed you a coke. "Your still looking fresh, must be havung an easy day. Mine has been busy but long so far. Did you think about what I asked you earlier. If I call we you meet me tonight?"

Hannah's day was already becoming far to long, it was steady but she liked it busy cause then time just went by so much faster, perhaps it was going so slow because of her and Roberts conversation earlier that day. She sighed and asked the manager since it was slow could she go on break and she said it was fine.

I was sitting there racking my brain before our flirtations never got farther than teasing but now I was giving my number out I felt like a sleeze even though that wasn't the case at all. ''Yeah.. I figured it's steady but slow, my days dragging too.'' She said smiling and accepting the soda. ''Steves working late tonight, I am sure I can where though? And it has to be between us just as friends.'' She said a little frantic.

"Yes Hannah, this time just as friends. I get off early, four o'clock, when do you get off today? I'm supposed to go see Linda for dinner at six, I'll tell her then about my misgivings and cancelling the wedding." I took a drink of my soda.

"Everything is going to be alright Hannah, I promise. But I will need someon to talk with when I leave her house. How about the diner or out at "Fred's". I will buy you supper at least." Hannah knew very well that between them it was more than just friends, but she insisted it on not getting to far she wouldn't be the reason for Robert leaving Linda or for her breakup with Steve.. she was to goodhearted when it came to matters of the heart, Rob had a good heart but over the years with the passing of his parents he hid all emotions well, and was considered a playboy before he and Linda began dating. ''This time.'' She said with a glint in her eyes and a laugh in her throat. ''I have a short shift today I get off at three but I have some errands and things to run anyway, so I can be ready after your dinner with Linda.'' She said softly and shook her head... ''Although calling off the wedding is a bad idea.. just keep the date and see how things go.'' She said looking at him taking his hand again this time it was more risky but Hannah and him were just friends so who cared what others thought. ''You need to think it out more is all I am saying.'' She said thoughtfully.

She giggled... ''You know I never turn down a free meal, the diner is great.'' She said knowing Linda hated fast places, and knowing Steve wouldn't be around anyway. ''I can meet you there by 8.'' She said and smiled sweetly at him.

"OK it's settled then, Eight o'clock at "Freds", It's a little bit nicer then the diner. To many of Linda's moms friends go there anyway. No, I made up my mind this weekend, on Sunday that I was calling off the wedding or at least postponing it to a much later date." Your hand felt so good, I wish I could say the hell with it and take you into my arms and hold you.

"Keep that smile and bring it along tonight. You love much prettier when you smile. It just lights up my heart. I smile back at you. It is a lovely smile too. What a way to start dating another women, meeting at a roadside eatery to talk about our other people in our lives. I wounder if I shold tell Hannah how I feel. Tonight.

"My time is up, Have to get back. See you at eight, and please don't be late. any changes, call or text me OK. Good. See you tonight." I squeeze you hand and blush a little as I look into your eyes.

I see you leave at three o' clock and a little sunshine just faded as you leave. I was busy and didn't get a chance to say anything more to you. I left an hour later. I hurried hom and shaved and showered and went on over to Linda's. Dinner was at six and i arrived at five thirty.

I asked linda to go out back with me and we talked a little and then she said how thoughtless it was of me to disapear on Sunday without so much as a by your leave. Well. That's when I told her of my decision to call off the weedding, postponing was now not an option any more. She must have called me every name in the book and went crying, running into the house and to her room. Her mom came out and I told her the same thing and she asked me to leave before her husband came home. I agreed and walked to my car and drove away. The Look in her mother's eye told me everything. I was throught with Linda and her family for now and evermore.

''Sounds good to me.'' She said with a bright smile as she looked at him.. she was thinking so much at the time and her dark hair went into her eyes for a moment as she tried not to look into his own mezmerizing smile. ''If its a choice then I understand.. its just I don't want this to be because of me.'' She said softly and smiled.

I look at you and blush as you tell me I have a pretty smile, Steve doesn't compliment me much I think to myself and sigh.. but he did treat me well for the most part and I did love him.. and didn't want to hurt him. I shake my head and get back to reality.

I look at you carefully as you seem to rush off as if you think I might change my mind if you don't hurry off so I just shake me head and smile.

I leave at three and run my errands my head spinning Steve already called and said he wouldn't be home until after 12 he had a dinner party, and as usual Hannah understood that. It was just a little after six o'clock when I drove away from Linda's home. I had expected her and her family to be upset, but neither Linda nor her mother wanted to listen to anything I had to or wanted to say. I twas now offically over, I had the ring in my pocket. I headed back to my appartment to change clothes. I change into a pair of jeans and a sport shirt. I picked up my jacket and left foer "Fred"s"

I found a parking space and went in and resered a booth in the back corner away from the bandstand and dance floor. I was a little early, it was only a little past seven thirty and Hannnah had set the time for eight o'clock.

I saw you enter the resturant and I stood and walked over to you. "Hi Hannah", I say as you see me walking over. "Glad to see you could make it. I have a booth right over here," and I escort you to our booth. I let you sit first before taking my seat opposite you. It would be easier to talk this way.

As I drive peacefully a slow song playing on my radio it was nice enough to have the windows down so I drive slow not wanting to get there before him. I sigh when I pull up and wonder what the hell I am doing as I park my car and gather my thoughts as well as myself.

I wait a few minutes sitting in my car pondering how Rob's night might have went the last thing I wanted was to be the reason he was calling of his wedding cause I had no intentsions of leaving Steve no matter how strong my feelings were growing for Rob.

I walk in and see you and I smile instantly, he looks good I think to myself as I walk to the table. ''Hello.'' She said softly as she looks you over. I follow you as you lead us to our table peacefully and much other things as I look at him closely he seemed changed different. ''Thanks for having me.'' She said as she sat in the seat he showed her to.

"Hannah, I am glad you accepted my invitation. Please sit here across from me so we can talk and I can look at you." I give you my best smile and I sit down also. "Before we talk, would you like to order first. You are looking fabulous tonight, better then your uniform I must say."

We each ordered somrthing to eat and drink and when the waitress left I leaned slightly forward and placed my hand over yours. "Things have chaned since I last saw you Hannah. I went to talk with Linda before dinner and she just didn't want to talk or even listen to me. She sais some very ugly things and then her mother got involved and so insted of just cancelling the wedding, I now have no betroved or a girlfriend anymore. She has thrown me out and requested me never to return." I paused here so you could understand what I had just said.
