Name: John Carson
Age: 38
Height: 6’-2”
Hair: Brown
Build: Muscular
The one day seminar was done and now he sat at the hotel bar having a few drinks before retiring to his room to watch Monday night football. The seminar had been pretty dull and he had thought of leaving early and driving back home. But instead he waited until it was over and then got into a discussion with some of the other attendees about banking rules and what impact they would have on their businesses. By the time he left the group, it was getting late and since he paid for the room, he decided to stay the night, get up early and drive the 4hours back home.
Drinking a scotch and water, he was amused with some of the other hotel patrons who were just arriving for another seminar. John had seen the announcement on the message board in the lobby that a group whose seminar started the next day was having a social hour to meet and greet each other. He hated those so-called get to know your other seminar attendees because most of the time, the conversations were idle chit-chat and meaningless.
He signaled Robert, the bartender, to serve him another drink as the room began to fill with more seminar attendees. He smiled at the people who knew each other and engaged in rapid conversations, catching up on past experiences. And then there were people who stood off to the side, not in the main stream of the good-ole boys’ network. They knew a few people casually but for the most part they kept to themselves, not venturing to greet people they didn’t know.
John sipped his drink slowly watching the action in the room when he noticed a woman standing by the door as if wondering what she was supposed to do. She was good looking and most of the men in the room turned their heads to check her out. He sipped his drink never let his eyes off the woman as she stood in the entrance, surveying the room. He noticed she did not have a name tag stuck to her dress like many of the other people. It seemed to John that she was trying to decide whether to join in the social hour or maybe leave.
She began to turn away when he saw another woman approach her and begin to exchange pleasantries. He saw her laugh and then when the woman left he noticed she again looked around the room. As if satisfied that she was in the right room she walked toward the bar. She sat down a few seats from him, smiling warmly when she caught John looking at her.
When the bartender approached her, she told him what she wanted to drink. John waved to bartender when he brought the drink to her, saying “I’ll take care of the tab Robert.”
