Wal-Mart announced that they will soon be offering
customers a new discount item. Wal-Mart's own brand
of wine. The world's largest retail chain is
teaming up with E&J Gallo Winery of California, to
produce the spirits at an affordable price, in the
$1-3 range. Wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to
throw a bottle of Wal-Mart brand into their shopping
carts, but "there is a market for cheap wine," said
Kathy Micken, professor of marketing. She said:
"But the right name is important."

Customer survey s were conducted to determine the
most attractive name for the Wal-Mart brand. The
top surveyed names in order of popularity are:

10.Chateau Traileur Parc

9. White Trashfindel

8. Big Red Gulp

7. Wo! rld Championship Riesling

6. NASCARbernet

5. Chef Boyardeaux

4. Peanut Noir

3. I Can't Believe It's Not Vinegar!

2. Grape Expectations

And the number 1 name for Wal-Mart Wine:

1. Nasti Spumante

The beauty of Wal-Mart wine is that it can be served
with either white meat (Possum) or dark meat (squirrel).

Bad thing is... I could soo see them trying to do that!
and it working quite well.

I can see on the lable

"MADE WITH REAL GRAPES"

It is funny how Americans have actually outsnobbed the Europeans when it comes to wine. There, an ordinary (aka cheap) table wine is fine and expected for a normal day at the dinner table. Everybody drinks wine, and nobody is intimidated like we are in the US. It's this notion of price, packaging and ritual which is the reason so many people don't every try wine until they far older than their counterparts in the rest of the world.

Laugh away, folks, but I guess you have never heard of "Two Buck Chuck." (aka Three Buck Chuck outside of CA.) It's wildly successful. And it is a fine table wine for an ordinary, average person on an ordinary, average day. If you are a snob, you won't like it if you look at the price tag first.

I'm with you Lady. It's Three Buck Chuck(Charles Shaw ,for those who don't know) up here in Washington . I have drank lots of it never have had a bad bottle.

And the source ,Trader Joe's, has a great selection of others. Always reasonably to ridiculously low priced. Tons of great wines from Europe ,Australia ,Chile. All with price tags that the wine snob would curl their noses at. Had to laugh at a blind taste test by NYC sommeliers(ms?) about a year or two ago. The four top Chardonnays they ranked were three $100 plus bottle and a $5 bottle of Yellow Tail from Austaralia.

One of the reasons I really like wine tasting parties. There are always fun surprises.

I don't recall that the favorite wine at any party I have attended has ever been the most expensive wine. (It can be, of course, if guests particularly like Merlot, for instance, and you have only one and it happens to be pricy.)

We'll probably include a Wal-Mart wine when it comes out and see how it goes.

It's a joke for god sakes.

See kiddo I can respond to anything any way I want to. Just like you can. Laugh a little. Lighten up. Take a vacation. Get laid. Do something. Life is to short.

Or you could take yourself really really seriously and "stand by your commentary." :D

You are an odd bird, bpt. But whatever.

"Roll your eyes" as you like, but I enjoyed the posts people wrote regarding their experiences with cheap wines.

Best wine I have ever had was a La Crema Chardonnay. It was $11/bottle. I bought 2 cases at BevMo.

That's hilarious! Sounds about right for my Wal Mart, too as I'm in a hick area.
